Last week I interviewed Malaysian opposition politician Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. He is one of the country’s youngest elected representatives. The interview is available as a vodcast from the ANU YouTube channel. We have a wide-ranging conversation that touches on his time as a student in London, the question of whether lawyers make good politicians and Australia’s contentious “Malaysia solution” for asylum seekers. We go on to discuss the challenges Nik Nazmi faces as a spokesman for opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and then conclude by elaborating his own ambitions for high political office.
