Azis Anwar Fachrudin is a staff member of the Centre for Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies (CRCS) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta.

He majored in Arabic language and literature as undergraduate at the State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta. After a graduate student fellowship at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2016, he obtained his MA degree from CRCS, with a thesis on theological justifications of the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).
