Today I am delighted to welcome Liam Gammon to the New Mandala team. As Editor, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of what has, over the past decade, become the largest and most widely visited website in Southeast Asian Studies. Liam replaces James Giggacher who served in this role, with great distinction, from 2015 until last month.

Liam brings a great deal of relevant academic, online and journalistic experience. He became interested in the politics of Southeast Asia after living for a year in Malaysia during high school. He then focused on Indonesia during his undergraduate Asian Studies degree at the ANU. Some of you will remember that Liam was a key player in the New Mandala team that broke new ground with its coverage of Indonesia’s 2014 election. Liam is currently completing a PhD in the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs.

In his new role, Liam will be supported by our Associate Editor, Mish Khan.

We will continue the job of offering anecdote, analysis and new perspectives on Southeast Asia. Liam and Mish will also bring fresh innovations and ideas to the site, with the goal of pioneering new ways of engaging our growing worldwide audience.

If you have contributions or suggestions then please, in the first instance, write to [email protected]. And please join me in welcoming him to this busy and exciting position.
