Followers of Karen politics and current affairs will be familiar with Padoe Aung San, the former Karen National Union Forestry Minister who in 1998 “returned to the legal fold” with some family members and followers. Last year he ran for the Kayin State parliament in Papun-2 constituency, with the Union Solidarity and Development Party. After counting of advance votes, he won the seat over a candidate from the National Unity Party.

Usually, Padoe Aung San is seen but not heard in state media. However, prior to the election, he had an interview published in the USDP’s Greenery Golden Land journal, which interested readers can find above (click on images for full size).
