Over at East Asia Forum, Desmond Ball and I have a short analysis of the relationship between military professionalisation and Thai politics. We argue that “Thailand’s increasingly professional army is yet to disentangle itself from politics: it remains a potent political force and has proved willing to make abrupt interventions to protect its role.” We offer a brief explanation for this state of affairs.
