Over at The Irrawaddy London School of Economics Research Fellow Maung Zarni has terse words for “the legions of Burma experts, seasoned Burma watchers and Rangoon-based Burmese elites” who he suggests have got their analysis wrong. Those New Mandala readers who follow these debates closely will find his contribution intriguing.

One portion suggests:

Perhaps the categorical failure on the part of experts and diplomats to understand Burma’s ruling class–its psyche, its mode of operation, the level to which it will sink in pursuit of its self-serving and nation-destroying politics and its approach to politics as a zero-sum game–should humble these foreign diplomats and experts.

Understandably, his analysis has also generated a fair number of comments; ranging across the full spectrum of opinion. All well worth a look.
