It is so ridiculous to hear such demanding from this academic institution. By definition, the academic must speak the truth and provide a reasonable suggestion to the issue.
The Ulta-nationalist history has blinded many academics and people in Thailand. It will be worse for the younger generation if the hatred, greedy, ethnocentric education has not been rewritten.
TULU, Where can I find that film your team made in 2000?
Basically that part of Ledo Road from Indian border to the Hugaung Valley has been a no-man land for a very long time, but they let the National Geographic team through to travel the whole Ledo road in 2003.
That part of Ledo road from Myitkyina to Namti and then to Tanai has been an all weather motorable, part sealed and mostly unsealed-dirt road as a strategic road maintained and controlled by the Burmese Army since the Sixties.
It would be more accurate for Mr. Somchit to state that, relative to its neighbors, Laos would suffer less in terms of its economic downturns. Let’s be honest, Laos does trade with its neighbors and FDI is becoming an ever more important source of revenue. If the Thai economy were to shrink at a rate forecast by its ministry of finance, then this may impact the level of FDI received in Laos from its neighbor. The cross-border trade between the two country cannot be underestimated either. Hence, while Laos’ GDP may not be affected to the same degree as Thailand’s or other nations in SE Asia, Laotian authorities should not downplay the growing integration of Laotian economy in the regional realm.
I commend the orderly and generally peaceful fashion in which the Red Shirts carried themselves out. It is healthy for a democratizing country that its citizens be allowed to freely expressed their opinions.
It would be very interesting to see if the Red Shirts would devolve into two separate factions – those that are pro-Thaksin and those that are pro-democracy. To date both groups seem to be in the mix, sending out unclear messages to the public. There are people, such as Giles, who may not necessarily like Thaksin but want to make a statement about democracy. If the Red Shirts would organize themselves around this new theme and mark a clear separation from being an organ of Thaksin, they may attract more supporters.
The essence of the Thai Lese majeste is Article 112 in the Criminal Code. Its relevance is very vague and although it is often brought
by a government official or a police officer, it can in fact be brought
by anyone (ie. anyone can file a complaint to the police if they think
they’ve witness a defamation act to the King, the Crown Prince, or
the Regent). Worse of, eventhough not included in the clause
literally, in practice these days other members of the royal family
are protected by this article as well.
Because of its ridiculous foundation, there are a number of social
movements -notably that of the so called “Red Shirt” group- to
change its use or even to completely demolish it. No one knows how
far or how soon that change can be witness.
speaking to close thai friend here in aus regardging harrys plight she strongly suggested, to me that the appeal should be directed to the thai queen mother directly from harrys own mother as the queen is reverred over there as the “mother” and her opinion is very highly respected. I dont know it is just a suggestion perhaps for harrys legal team to consider.
The Bangkok Post (31 Jan 09) in a story where Suthep warns the UDD about the upcoming rally has a line in which suggests that the Democrat-led government is looking as conservative as the Surayud/palace/military administration following the coup: “Meanwhile, police in several districts of Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday set up checkpoints on Bangkok-bound routes. Motorists were asked about their destination and purpose of travel.” So not just freedom of speech but freedom of movement are an issue for the Democrat-led government.
Placed next to Nick Nostitz’s photos of the recent Red Shirt rally, these photos of the PAD encampment circa early December are particularly provocative. There are many possible juxtapositions when thinking about the PAD and the Red Shirts — the possibly uncanny alliances of the Red Shirts and the seemingly unbending rules for participation in the PAD, the differing (and shifting) perspectives and orientations towards ”law” of each group, and the ways in which each group calls upon the recent past and its images to create its own identity. The photo I am most captivated is the PAD banner that apologizes for “inconvenience” – as if that was the most damaging possible result of the PAD’s actions over the last two years.
“S.Wong”,
1. I am not sure whether I get your point – please elaborate it a little bit more.. Are you serious about this? Are you comparing the succumbend thai government with the K.Rouge??
2. If this is sarcasm, how can the admins allow such a deviance..
Abhisit is fast showing that what he says and what he does are quite separate. There was also a good interview with him on BBC radio, from Davos, where, when pushed on some issues, he became quite agitated rather too quickly. On the Rohinga issue for example. I doubt this approach is going to work well with foreign journalists.
Update on yesterday’s email which only considered redundancies at Sepon to early January: as of end of January a total of 25 Lao workers (out of 5,000 plus) had been laid off. In addition 288 ItalThai construction workers have finished their work and returned home. Sorry not to have been as up to date as I should have been.
Everyone must understand who and what we are dealing with. The game we are playing goes beyond the domestic politics of class struggle, it involves international politics of Southeast Asia. Neither the planners nor the funding are local. As such, the political project of this magnitude reflects studies, research, planning, implementing beyond local capabilities. Their objective is a civil war to kill the Red Shirts across the country. That was what LSS and Sri.. were communicating.
“Socio-pedagogy”, means the sociology of the “in group” killing the “out group” concept. They succeeded in Indonesia with ┬╜ million killed in 1965, and in Cambodia over 1 million killed in 1975.
“Second round of education reform” means deepen the psychological operation among the PAD members to kill the Red Shirts, claiming to protect the monarchy as they did in the 6th October 1976.
The Stilwell Road

It has been very time-consuming and tedious to obtain this piece of paper simply because there are too many steps and too many people involved in this process, worse, people who are involved in this process are those who have NEVER traveled further up north than Tanai, also known as Walabum in the WWII days.

If the redshirts had any political credibility at all they would be concerned about the irreconcilable differences between being pro-democracy and being hero-worshippers of one man and his one-size-fits-all over-simplistic solutions. The fact that they can’t see the contradiction is evidence that they represent yet another dead-end in Thai politics. Do I really want to support yet another set of paid-up fascist thugs (a la PAD)? Academic leadership
The Stilwell Road
TULU, Where can I find that film your team made in 2000?
Basically that part of Ledo Road from Indian border to the Hugaung Valley has been a no-man land for a very long time, but they let the National Geographic team through to travel the whole Ledo road in 2003.
http://stage.ngm.nationalgeographic.com/features/world/asia/myanmar/burma-road-text
That part of Ledo road from Myitkyina to Namti and then to Tanai has been an all weather motorable, part sealed and mostly unsealed-dirt road as a strategic road maintained and controlled by the Burmese Army since the Sixties.
Laos too poor to get any poorer
Maintaining the rage
Bring Harry home!
Lèse majesté and Harry Nicolaides
speaking to close thai friend here in aus regardging harrys plight she strongly suggested, to me that the appeal should be directed to the thai queen mother directly from harrys own mother as the queen is reverred over there as the “mother” and her opinion is very highly respected. I dont know it is just a suggestion perhaps for harrys legal team to consider.

Repression
The Bangkok Post (31 Jan 09) in a story where Suthep warns the UDD about the upcoming rally has a line in which suggests that the Democrat-led government is looking as conservative as the Surayud/palace/military administration following the coup: “Meanwhile, police in several districts of Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday set up checkpoints on Bangkok-bound routes. Motorists were asked about their destination and purpose of travel.” So not just freedom of speech but freedom of movement are an issue for the Democrat-led government.
PAD’s last day at Government House

1. I am not sure whether I get your point – please elaborate it a little bit more.. Are you serious about this? Are you comparing the succumbend thai government with the K.Rouge??
2. If this is sarcasm, how can the admins allow such a deviance..
Repression
Abhisit is fast showing that what he says and what he does are quite separate. There was also a good interview with him on BBC radio, from Davos, where, when pushed on some issues, he became quite agitated rather too quickly. On the Rohinga issue for example. I doubt this approach is going to work well with foreign journalists.
Laos too poor to get any poorer
Update on yesterday’s email which only considered redundancies at Sepon to early January: as of end of January a total of 25 Lao workers (out of 5,000 plus) had been laid off. In addition 288 ItalThai construction workers have finished their work and returned home. Sorry not to have been as up to date as I should have been.
Maintaining the rage
Do we all understand the game?
