China wants everything and they will bully whoever and whenever they can at the slightest chance. It is in the blood. Deng said being greedy/ capricious/ ruthless is glorious, right?
Still having Than Shwe and his henchmen in deep, deep, monetary debt may not be enough to squeeze the rest of the country.
It would really be a sight to see China trying to establish a land base in Bangladesh. Can’t wait.
William Lim, you are a lost idiot. Your ethnicity and race are who you are. You don’t escape that no matter where you might live. That’s why the different ethnic groups in the US have their own identities eg black, anglo, Chinese, jewish.
You must be very young and immature. You remind me of the zombies in Singapore just living your life superficially, you don’t even know who you are. No matter where we go, even when we live overseas, we are identified by our race and cultural heritage. That is who we are. And without knowing that, you can never be who you want to be.
There is nothing new in this. The 1984 Jackson report on Australia’s aid programme noted the 4 drivers of assistance: politics, trade, economic development and humanitarian assistance. Economic development has often been linked to decreasing demand to come to Australia. The specifics change over time but the principles are enduring. The article notes there is bipartisan support for the current shape of things, which is true, but fails to state that this is only possible because, from the ‘yellow peril’ to current fears about ‘terrorism’, far too many Australians are seduced by the rhetoric of xenophobia.
Kyaukphyu SEZ will be a no man land if it doesn’t involve China But China won’t suckered to this deal without a rail and expressway from Kunming.
As far as container port is concerned, why China needs a port here when she has a much bigger and more convenient one in Hambantota.
And let say if China needs a port in the deep bend of Bengal Bangladesh is a better choice because their democracy is more open minded in this kind of development and welcome China too with open arms.
Thousands have been given the blue identity card meaning citizenship according to an RCI( Royal Commission of Inquiry)from 1990’s on as the population of Sabah ballooned by 78% so what happened to Thomas and Rohit?
It is very simple, Muslims from Mindanao, Palawan and Indonesia are miraculously transformed into ‘Malays’ so they can vote for UMNO. Any odd non-Muslim from outside Malaysia that strays in, is somehow easily found, when laxity defines identifying illegal Muslim migrants. Indigenous KadazanDusun are divided (thanks to UMNO) between those who are obsequious to UMNO
(e.g., Kitingan brothers) and those who are less obsequious to UMNO (no one at the moment). Sadly, Sabah has no Dusun clone of Baru Bian, a very brave, forthright and independent-minded Iban PKR member in Sarawak. The fixed deposit remains so, sadly, and worst of all, UMNO broke repeatedly the Malaysia Agreement of 1963, by interfering in Sabah’s cultural and religious affairs, made a mockery by the Nazi-loving Sabahan Bung Mokhtar. By interfering in Sabah’s (and Sarawak’s) religious affairs, which according to the Malaysia Agreement of 1963, has NO official religion, UMNO has managed to accomplish two things: 1) By breaking this agreement, ipso facto, UMNO also breaks the Malaysian Constitution which cannot be viewed independently of the MA of 1963; and 2) By breaking the MA of 1963, UMNO has given full legal recourse for both Sabah and Sarawak to leave the Federation, as meeting all the conditions of the MA of 1963, was the original basis for what is now Sabah and Sarawak joining the Federation in the first instance. Prime Minister Najib, State Leaders Taib Mahmud (Sarawak) and Musa Aman (Sabah) have made a mockery of Malaysia, Malaysian citizens, indigenous people, and UMNO has made another grand Malaysian accomplishment for the record books, which few other nations have matched: It has broken both of its only national historical documents; the very foundation upon which Malaya achieved independence and ultimately became Malaysia. What do you mean “was” and “fought” as if it is a dead parrot? I shelled out the princely (ahem) sum of ┬г1.80 only two weeks ago for my routine plane travel fix of Dumb Britain, Pseuds Corner, Rotten Boroughs, Lookalikes and The Neophiliacs just two weeks ago. And as far as I know, “Koala Kong” Murdoch or “Dirty” Desmond haven’t bought it out or closed it down since, and it’s still available at all good newsagents. I believe there’s even an online version these days, for those in the colonies….
The discussion of the succession issue sounds quite like the older discussion of the millenium bug. Then several people expected chaos, breakdown of order etc. In the US supermarkets were emptied to prepare for the crisis etc. In the night from 1999 to 2000 nothing had happened.
Dear the National Library of Australia,
I am a deputy township judge in Myanmar. I’m also interested in acquiring copies of BLRs of ur library , and I want to help and participate in ur research or maybe other plans concerning with BLRs. I could find and provide not only the BLRs but also others concerning laws, books and other details about our Judicial and legislative system as I m a judge and also master student in civil law specialization. However, I have passed my first year master exam, but my master second year is stayed now as I became judge. This plan of acquiring BLRs has been uploaded since 2008 and I think almost all of them have been collected, but if u need some help, I would like to help as I can for ur plans. Thanks!
Private Eye was a great and good publication. It fought bravely against snobbery, a social disease which cripples Britain and, even more seriously, Thailand.
That would explain why so many who prefer the “real thing” are arrested by Interpol with 10,000 images of the “real thing” ? Maybe in Poland or Slovenia, they do things differently, but a religious leader in my own home town was just arrested for 10,000 images of the “real thing”, which he never actually frequented in “real life”.
This “reading list” has made me quite interested. I believe that a comparison to suppression of political dissent under East European Communist regimes in their “normalizing” period (roughly late 1960s to mid-1980s) might prove fruitful, especially as important sections of that dissent were probably quite similar to Barisan Sosialis activists in their political outlook as well as in their social background.
Peter Cohen’s comment above is somewhat puzzling. Am I the only one to suspect that many people actually prefer “the real thing” to pornography?
Ale! I’ve been trying for years to find a current e-mail address for you. If you get this message, please get in touch. Every e-mail address I’ve ever had still works, or you can Google me (add “editor” to the search terms to narrow things down). Anne Thistle.

You wish China is in on this project. Settle your problems with the locals first, perhaps, we’ll come.
We got burned so many times by a society that wants democracy but has yet understand the real meaning of democracy in our part of the world.

Crown Prince’s family update?
Yes, I regret using the wrong tense. Glad it’s still going… needed as much as ever.
Prayuth, do you hear the people sing?
hrk – I think you are exactly correct : an overthrow of the neo-Thanin K forces looks increasingly likely.

Some aspects of the current situation remind me of Thanin K.

Maybe some literal singing is in order.

Singapore’s ‘Battle for Merger’ revisited
Readers of New Mandala should watch the movie Syriana (2005) starring George Clooney and Matt Damon.
Try not to read the synopsis of the movie before watching it.
Democracy US style is simply the best.
