Finally, a coherent and rational argument! I applaud you, Agus. LSI, CSIS Indonesia / Cyrus Network, Indikator and SMRC are all led by advisors to the Jokowi camp. I’m not saying I’m for Prabowo (and frankly it doesn’t matter, as I cannot vote) but we do need to look at all sides of the proverbial dice.

Do you honestly think that Megawati (with the backing of Riyadi, Wiranto, etc, etc.) is above the typical Indonesian tactics to sway the tide in their favor?

Both sides are capable and culpable… stop kidding yourselves.

I did read the lot. Thank you. 🙂 Which makes it very interesting indeed when one refers back to the title and the opening paragraph of the article.

May I ask for what agency and for what purpose is this data collected? Is this from independent volunteers? It didn’t say anything in the google docs.

I would very much like to help, but I am wary of the purpose of this.

Title: the term “President Jokowi” – According to who? Some can claim there is also President Prabowo. So who is what according to whom? In a way, the title alone tends to shape opinion. If the article was intended as a comparison study; why not President Jokowi vs President Prabowo?Or (what ever style Jokowi might be) vs Oligarchy? Seriously, does Indonesian KPU mean nothing at all? First Paragraph: “It now seems fairly certain that Joko Widodo has won the 2014 Presidential elections in Indonesia although his rival, Prabowo Subianto, has so far rejected the results of the early exit polls.” If it is based on quick counts or exit polls or whatever, Prabowo does have the right to object (the word ‘reject’ seems too harsh) as there are other quick counts/ exit polls showing that he is leading. Both have the same right to claim victory, is it not? It is simply a matter of perspective. In addition, wouldn’t it be much better to also include the name of each of the institutions responsible for the quick counts/ exit polls as well as a reference point? Nevertheless, it is back to the very basic of it. Those results are NOT official real count to be able to address any of the candidates as a President, are they not? If you do not already know; I concede that “How to Lie with Statistics” by Darrell Huff (First published in 1954) is rather old but still is a valid good read. To emphasize my point again, the quality of output of any statistical study is pretty much depending on the quality of the input. Hence, the ‘flavour’ of the output can also be manipulated. Whilst it is often also used in politics; one should looked at sampling methods of Quick Counts/Exit Polls to determine the quality of the statistics – especially in cases where it carries a greater risk (in this case, it may affect the stability of a nation). If it is of any interest; another example of different standard of countings resulting in election dispute also happened in the US in 2000 – although it should be noted that it is not an apple to apple comparison with the case in Indonesian Presidential Election. PS: Couldn’t find the book “How to Comment Constructively 101”. If I do, I’ll make sure I get two as it seems you also need one. 🙂

Thanks so much for the links, Ibu Pandu…

I keep the tabs for those links open in my computer so I can check from time to time. Downloaded the scanned C1 forms for my province too… Still don’t know what to do with it. I should probably upload it somewhere? Thanks!

And just to confirm how Corrupt Prabowo Governance could be, they formed Permanent Coalition (Consist of the Big Parties that Backs Prabowo) and revoke UU MD3 Constitution just right before the Election 9 July which states:

    1. Member of House of Reps can not be reviewed by KPK (Corruption Eradication Unit) without the permission of President.

    2. The winner Party of Legislative Election will not be automatically become the Chief of House of Reps (DPR).

(Menjegal kebijakan Presiden)
    3. The Permanent Coalition has full rights to Accept or Reject any Constitution.

(Melegalkan gratifikasi)
    4. For any New Appealed Constitution or Project, they have the right to receive any gratification.

    So, semoga Anda paham.

  11. Ryo says:

Yes, indeed. I think it will better to translate into Indonesia, more Indonesian will understand this article and see your point of view.

I was confused because I saw the information on twitter first. The info at the time was that Pol Tracking office was attacked. I should have been more careful. Thanks!

Lembaga Survei Nasional, one of the Prabowo leaning organizations has this on their website:

Seandainya pemilihan presiden dilakukan hari ini, siapakah capres – cawapres di bawah ini yang akan anda pilih ?
    Select Poll

Seandainya pemilihan presiden dilakukan hari ini, siapakah capres – cawapres di bawah ini yang akan anda pilih ?
    Joko Widodo – Jusuf Kalla
    2742 74.7%
    Prabowo – Jatta Rajasa
    928 25.3%

    Number of Voters : 3670
    First Vote : Thursday, 03 July 2014 08:11
    Last Vote : Friday, 11 July 2014 07:16

  15. blackpearl says:

The news said it’s the JSI office that got attacked with a Molotov cocktail.

Are the pol tracking and JSI the same, then? Their quick count results are different, so I reckon they are not the same…

  17. stefan says:

Have you read about UU MD3 yet? You will see what kind of country, prabowo and his coalition is trying to make with that law their coalition passsed through just the night before pilpres. If that law don’t change your mind on what his coalition’s intention are, nothing will.
Don’t even try to say that prabowo don’t control what his party is doing. This law was passed with the support of his party. There are only two explanation for this action, he is power hungry, or he is such an incompetent leader that he has no knowledge of what his party is doing in congress. Either possibilities point to hard time ahead for indonesia.
Action speaks louder than words. His speech maybe sweeter than honey, but his actions are more than poisonous, it’s actually radioactive. If this law stays, say goodbye to any corruption eradication attempt.
UU MD3 basically gave unlimited “get out of jail” card to dpr members that are protected by the president. How insane can this law get? It is not limited to corruption, you will literally be able to get away with murder and rape too.
P.S. I don’t think Jokowi is perfect, but compared to what the prabowo and his aliies are doing, he might as well be.

  19. Vince says:

FYI, please read all the articles and comprehend each words written on it. The article specified correctly “seems fairly certain” rather than “absolutely” or “certainly” , there is a reason why the word is used differently. The same paragraph has also mentioned that according to EARLY EXIT POLL.

The article is writing about what are the problems Jokowi will faced if he becomes President.

Your comment is totally out of context to the real body of this article, do you stop reading after first sentence? Maybe you would benefit from “How to read 101”.

  20. angrymagpie says:

What exactly is your problem of the first paragraph, so much so that you had to type in FULL CAP? Is your problem with the use of the term exit poll? What sort of problem do you have with the use of the term? Were the authors wrong to use the term? How so?
Are you questioning the validity of the existing quick counts that suggest a Jokowi-JK win (that they are lying?) Or are you rejecting quick count altogether? Why?
I am deeply concerned with the quality of some of the comments here in New Mandala. Maybe you should reread “How to Comment Constructively 101″before accusing the contributors of producing rubbish and lies?
