  6. Franklin says:

Great Article, horrifying to be more precise. People cannot undermine the power of “power” which equal to MONEY. Prabowo has the coalition that fill up 63.04% of the seats in the congress. Also the assumption that election commission can be manipulated is a very strong assumption, given the fact that it is still done without the help of electronic voting (which also could be tampered by hackers) This nation is at a sharp turn between the power of the elite and the power of the common and my knowledge about history, the elites always prevail. Take the United States as an example. The fact that they use electoral college, instead of direct democracy to decide who the president is to prevent the “uneducated masses” to prevail.(attributed by founding fathers of United States to Plato’s Cave and Socrates’ observation that despite the availability of enlightenment, there are those who would fight to remain ignorant) The fear that every top 1% is always the tyranny of the majority. For the elite of top 1%, Joko Widodo is a potential threat to their empire. If Joko Widodo in fact win, it is going to be unprecedented phenomenon in Asia or in fact modern democracy (except probably Uruguay, not sure about the facts). Still, it all comes back to what is democracy if the common could not decide who to rule.

Claiming as an elected president is one of a bad habit in PDIP. It was done by Megawati during election in 2004. in fact, we all know, SBY was choosen by the real count. Come on, it is considered a narrow opinion for me and many of Indonesian thinker, buddy. Prabowo and Team decide this for a reason, known PKS assigned as a eye witnes during count, and have their own result. It will be better for us to calm down and respect the KPU’s result later on 22/07. Tq.

  11. Mony W says:

You may be right that there was no vote buying. I can’t argue about it since I myself didn’t see or hear people get paid to vote.
However, the votes that Prabowo got were results of faked information that flying around telling people that Jokowi was really bad person and Prabowo was the hero who could save Indonesia from him. (Sad thing; it did work on some friends of mine.)
The votes Prabowo got were not coming from pure intentions. It came out of fear, confusion, fannatism and arrogancy.

  12. AntiThesis says:

The biggest flaw in the argument is that it assume too much. Imbalance assumptions.

It assume that most state organization including the Election Commision CAN be manipulated. While it refuse to assume that most survey institutions, privates, are free from such manipulative behavior EXCEPT the ones that result contradict the arguments.

I can see huge cloud of BIAS here. It’s a shameful article full of unprecedented hatred toward one of the candidate. One should print this article and use it as paper toilet.

  13. Sebastian says:

Cause you know what? Fear motivates people. Fear drives people to do something. Even reputable academics as Edward Aspinall would instill fear and ignore his academic prestige to push Indonesians fighting for our democracy.

Fighting for our democracy is a good thing, yeah. But it’s saddening that we haven’t moved on from the typical New Order fear tactics to do this.

  14. bpkp pusat says:

If Jokowi become the winner of this presidential election, Prabowo should be graceful to accept this defeat with an open heart .. Although he failed to reach his ambition to become a president, at least he’s success for getting his wife back.. Everyone won the game.lol.

  18. Ferdinand says:

what? are you dumb? When I heard there are 2 different results from different TV Station I already imagine this scenario. He wanted to create confusion amongst the people. Confusion and misdirection is a weapon in political world.

Prabowo must not become the president! Not because of him, but it’s because corrupted politicians in his team who are waiting to be given a seat in his cabinet, his cabinet will be full of corrupted politicians, and my beloved country will be more corrupt than ever, even more than when Soeharto was the president.

  19. Ghazwa says:

what a bunch paranoid! you guys think that you know Prabowo more than anyone else, and try to persuade people with your Low IQ, it might works for some people….

why can you even see the chance that prabowo could win this election without cheating, this quick count thing is already happened when Megawati declared prematurely when she was running against SBY, at the end the final count shows that SBY has more vote than she is

maybe this why you guys need mental revolution

  20. Phil says:

Even if without parliament’s support, there’s so much he can do simply with his powers as president, no? He controls the cabinet: he can fix the ministries. Stamp out corruption, fix the ways they recruit and promote people, direct their polices. That would be a revolution in itself. And as far as parliament, it’s not like he’s got much to lose there – haven’t they passed some ridiculously small number of laws under SBY?
