Over the past couple of hours we have been getting quite a few “anti” messages coming through as comments: threatening, haphazard, aggressive. I have let some of them go up as comments to give New Mandala readers a taste of the feelings that are out there. There is some bad language. I apologise for that.
In searching for the source of this small wave of disapproval I stumbled upon this recent piece of anti-New Mandala, anti-ANU commentary. Under the headline “Don’t study at the ANU” (р╕нр╕вр╣Ир╕▓р╣Др╕Ыр╣Ар╕гр╕╡р╕вр╕Щ ANU) it asks:

A translation is:
Why is a website from a national-level university allowing the writing of this type of article? Go over there and help curse them.
After reading it I want to be anti. I don’t want Thai kids to study there.
Of course the Universities represented on the initial list of signatories to the lese majeste reform letter are many. Just for a start there are scholars from Yale University, University of Washington, University of Mississippi, University of Hawai’i, New York University, University of British Columbia, State University of New York, University of the Philippines, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of California-Berkeley, Massachusette Institute of Technology, La Trobe University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Leiden and University of Hong Kong. And the ANU.
And that’s just on the first two pages. Will there be a call to boycott all these Universities? And more?
