Very long-term readers of New Mandala may recall my posts starting in August 2006 about the Rohingya asylum-seekers the Australian government incarcerated on Nauru.

According to a report in today’s Sydney Morning Herald they will now be allowed to settle in Australia. Some sense seems to have finally prevailed in the way Australia deals with “unauthorised arrivals”. Of course, it’s a great pity that these men seeking refuge from the Burmese dictatorship had to wait so long for compassion and justice to prevail.
