Asia, Thailand, Bangkok, Violence, Riots, Bangkok saw at the 7.10.2008 a day of heavy street violence between anti government PAD and police, when police opened a gate at PAD surrounded parliament to allow a parliament session to proceed. PAD fought police with slingshots, a few 9 mm hand guns, iron bars and wooden clubs. Police used mostly tear gas grenades which resulted in many severe injuries including a few torn off limbs of protesters. Several police officers were severely injured as well, by gun shots, stabbings and when PAD used cars to overrun officers. Army observes the violence. 7.10.2008, ┬й 2008, Nick Nostitz/Agentur Focus

Dr Nicholas Farrelly is the co-founder of New Mandala. A graduate of the Australian National University and the University of Oxford, over the past 20 years he has undertaken research in Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, China and India. Nicholas is Head of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Tasmania and formerly the Associate Dean of the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University, where he also led the ANU Myanmar Research Centre from 2015 to 2017.
