Sorry … I made up the term for want of one readymade. I meant the collective narrative spun chiefly by North American and European, English language mainstream media.
The French and Germans had shown some resitance to what has turned out to be the US’ serial string of aggressions, invasions, occupations, and now its reign/rain of drone terror from the skies.
But now they’re all on board. Getting ready to ‘do’ Syria just as they ‘did’ Libya … then on to Tehran. The Western neoliberal Axis of Terror and its mouthpiece : the Globalized MSM.
I am afraid you people take it too seriously. Look at it this way. HMK has said he expects to live to be 120. By that time, our dear CP will be nearly 100, too late for any action. So rest easy, friends, there’s hope yet.
I was unable to understand what you were trying to say. Appreciate if you could restate your point clearly. Thank you.
Also let me clarify what I am trying to say.
(1) Violence, anywhere, by anyone – should be condemned.
(2) We must find a way to solve issues without having to resort to violence.
(3) I am not in anyway suggesting that Pol Pot is not guilty. Far from it.
(4) I am saying that if Pol Pot is guilty of genocide (defined as the killing of thousands of innocent people – which he is), then using that same definition, the US is also guilty (for their actions in Iraq beginning from the first Gulf war, their actions in the Vietnam war, etc).
Moros are in fact original people in the South and the affair is more complex than pure religion or territory and the Islamic World is not that really interested.
The Rohingya is currently the most galvanizing affair where, as the rearest of occurances, the Human Rights groups around the world and the Muslim – main stream AND the radical groups of all persuations are united for the cause.
It must be remembered that no one is really interested to go and mediate to lessen the violece. But all give out profuse threat and promise more and more violence showing the end of intelligence of the humanity.
And it is still fresh. So one can never tell what might transpire in the next precious few months. The ingredients are there for some irresponsible act to ignite. The last burnings (Indian races of all persuations are fascinatd by fire!) and destruction of 250 year old Buddhist temple in Bangladesh was supposed to be ignited by a picture of (again!) burning Koran on the usual media of choice -Facebook.
Another difference is the event like Maguindanao massacre cannot happen in Burma at the moment as the battle lines are between the Bamar military of any dress and others. But the way all the armed groups been bought at (relatively cheap price- Khin Nyunt would be impressed) there will soon be fifedoms like in Maguindanao.
We already have drug warlords in the parliament. It is not so imginative to see the next round of “democratic election” to be conducted in bullets.
No sure even the brilliant Andrew & Nicholas could make up the stuff that “Annie” has been spicing up Prachatai English with lately.
Reminds me of the good old days 🙂
The loyal opposition is busy hobnobbing with the generals and acting as intermediaries, so the people do not inadvertently rock the boat too much in pursuing their rights and freedoms. Got its work cut out. Happy families then.
They’ll be begging for jobs in the SEZs, Ohn. Better to be exploited than not, given Hobson’s choice. If the cronies think they have first refusal in the arena of industrial scale farming/fishing they’ve got another think coming.
The future is bright. The future is FDI…. kerrching! Why, the whole process has been about Western investment, never mind the people, the Kachin etc., they’ll serve a purpose in the bigger scheme of things.
Annie, for a person who thinks it doesn’t really matter and who professes that she doesn’t really care, it is a little odd to see that you still got stuck with NM. Seems to be a love-hate affair…
Hmmm. I have no idea what you are talking about, but I susect it is an attempt at irony but without the language skill to do a good job. No matter.
I believe the moderators of New Mandala attempt to shape opinion on New Mandala by the selective publishing and with-holding of posts submitted. I further believe that the moderators themselves break the ‘forum rules’ (if there is any such thing’, which is just evidence of humbug.
It may be conscious or it may be unconscious, it doesn’t really matter.
And I donlt really care, the forum is already in decline.
Sadly, near home and current, we now have a well hyper-celebrated “National Leader” in Burma denying largest onslaught of Burmese military in the history against its own citizens(using rockets, helicopters, tens of battalions and well documented Human Rights abuse) for 18 months.
Unlike Chomsky this one is well looked up to and regarded like a saint by millions. The damage it does!
Annie, New Mandala is not like old scientology. Are you an old scientology member too? I hoped joining this club would be like the boat again, but it’s much more evil than that! Andrew is L Ron Hubbard 2.0! Reincarnation?? I don’t know, but his Psi scores are off the chart like L Ron. You think he’s Buddhist? No. Decietfully he’s a neo-Hindu with some scientology overtones. He’s much more dangerous than Hubbard 1.0 this time because this time he is trying to attract poor people with his philosophies, which have nothing to do with Xenu, of neo-Hinduism.
Thanks for the link. I didn’t see it previously. I guess we’re just supposed to know where the links ought to be and find them there under the new regime.
I couldn’t read that post … I don’t know why grey letters on a black background is hip, but it seems to be … so I copied it
I added a link in the text to Distortions at Fourth Hand, which is what Nate Thayer bases his … jeremiad … upon. I know who Noam Chomsky is but didn’t know Nate Thayer, so I had to look him up. Unlike Chomsky, he’s apparently built his career around Pol Pot and the KR, and so is perhaps understandably incensed at Chomsky and others’ having diminished the stature of his pièce de résistance.
I think – if any cares what I think, no reason why you should, as Inso Ojek points out – that Noam Chomsky’s – that Israel Shamir’s – self-appointed tack is to debase the currency of the sacred holocausts which, as a matter of fact, are used to obfuscate and to ‘justify’ equally monstrous if not worse holocausts in their ‘shadow’.
So I don’t think Noam Chomsky is telling ‘intellectually intentional, knowing lies designed to mislead people as to the true facts to further a pre-determined ideological agenda, parsing, obfuscating and intentionally deceiving people to wrongly attribute the origins, causes, responsibility and perpetrators of the Cambodian suffering’ – and I don’t even think that Nate Thayer is either.
But I do think that the Globalized MSM has done so and is doing so right now, with it’s stories of the terrorists in Libya who have killed the US ambassador there, and it’s non-stories about the terrorists in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemem, Sudan and elsewhere who are doing worse, day in and day out, and will be doing so for four more years come January … until the United States and its allies finally do collapse from their own internal financial fraud.
Since I do not “believe” anything about you, there is no need for you to care or not to care. All that I am interested in is evidence for your two claims. Since you claim to be both intelligent and a grown-up, there should be no insurmountable problems in publicly demonstrating that your advertised claims are true.

я╗┐Myanmar reshuffle: the reform agenda
Phillipines Plan B!
There are a few critical differences.

Burma’s Constitution: Straightjacket or red herring?

я╗┐Myanmar reshuffle: the reform agenda
Taiwan and the Philippines combined is
smaller than Myanmar.
The former was under marshal Law until this
present democratic elected government,the
latter complexities/diversities comparable
to Myanmar was similarly ruled.
Myanmar present “Road to discipline
Democracy” scenarios pale in comparison to
historical documented atrocities
legendary corruption and cronyism during
both countries transformation to present so
called ‘more democratic’/’more western acceptable’ government.
Both enjoyed the unequivocal supports and blessings by the
West/USA.
Derek Tonkin is absolutely correct in supplanting Thein Sein’s
“–no U turn on road towards democracy”.
Those who complain about ongoing similarities to Taiwan and
Philippines must realize that there are bigger threats than the
Kachin question.
If this present reshuffled government can not get a grip on
situations in Western Myanmar it will make the now
historical ‘Moro question’ in the Philippines a back to the
future with a judgement day ending.

In Tibet, instead of ‘middle income’ I imagine, would be ‘high altitude’ peasants would be the norm.
But I envy AW because he has the health (and I don’t) to scale and endure Tibet.

Whatever my friend. I don’t advertise, I state opinions. You can take it or leave it, it doesn’t really matter and I don’t really care.
This is off-topic and this is my last response to you on the matter.
