Good one Vichai N. You have fallen back into the mode of anyone who opposes or disagrees with you and your ilk is paid by Thaksin. Do you realize how totally bonkers you appear? Barking in fact.
In many other countries, similar abuses of flawed laws have provoked organized civil responses. Let me ask two questions that would help me understand why nothing of the sort seems to be happening in Thailand.
1. Does anyone know how many lese majeste cases were dropped by the police, and, more crucially, what happens to complainants of spurious accusations?
2. Is there anything in Thai statute that would criminalize the registering of baseless or insubstantial accusations of lese majeste? If a Thai citizen were to file charges against someone on the basis of hearsay (or other insubstantial evidence), would they face any sort of consequences?
What’s the punishment for the doctor who murdered his wife? yeah you got release because he is a “doctor”. I dont know how Thai judge can live with themselves.
To say that any money spent on mobile phones and motorcycles in the Northeast was a form of “squandering” is really absurd as many studies have shown that the introduction of widespread, inexpensive mobile phones in less-developed economies creates enormous efficiencies in communication of all kinds of information and is a very positive stimulus to economic activity, increased productivity and more optimum use of the various markets for goods, services and labor.
In regard to anyone in the Northeast of Thailand buying a motorcycle, many studies have shown that the ubiquitous spread of small hi-mileage motorcycles throughout South East Asia have contributed mightily in the creation of a highly efficient de-centralized transportation and distribution system for people, goods and services.
Even to this day, I am sometimes personally amazed at how many farm animals, goods and people can be transported on a single 50cc motorcycle using a minuscule amount of fuel.
“Incomes in the northeast rose nearly 50 percent during the Thaksin government and even more in the provinces east and south of Bangkok.”
I keep hearing different conflicting numbers on the increase of incomes in the NE during Thaksin’s tenure.
It is confusing , and it seems a constantly contested issue in Thai politics along the rifts between the pro-Thakisn , anti-Thaksin, camps.
From what I’ve read,
The anti-Thaksin camp basically says that Thaksin granting small loans in the NE indebted many people since people purportedly spent the money lent on mobile phones, motorcycles etc. things that doesn’t generate any income, thus only giving a perception of increase of income followed by indebtness.
While,
The pro-Thaksin camp says Thaksin increased the income in the NE by job creating policies, granting small loans promoting small businesses, cheap health care and so forth, thus creating real increase of income and quality of life.
No doubt, the population of the NE perceives that their wealth, or quality of life, increased during Thaksin’s tenure and credit this directly to his policies. Surely cheap health care increased quality of life, and lowered spending in that area. On the small loans though, job creation, increase of income, I’m fuzzy.
What source did NyTimes get the number 50 percent from?
Can anyone point me to some solid statistics here? Would be most grateful
After trying to figure out the objectives of those people attempting to influence public opinions by slandering against “Voice TV” and “Prachatai,” I realize that these two Internet TV and website are becoming rising stars, influential, and holding key information that their opponents fear.
For example, Sae Daeng (Maj. Gen. Khattiya Sawaddhipol) has a list of name of 52 persons whom he believes, are manipulating the situation behind the scene against Thaksin. These names are available in the “ThaiE-News” which anyone can verify.
When I group these facts together, I can see patterns. What is striking, to me, is that these 52 persons are the same people who were behind the scene against General Thanom and General Prapas on October 14, 1973 as well as against Dr. Puey Ungpakorn on October 6, 1976. The same group of people are doing the same thing in 1973, 1976, and now!
Listening to M.L. Nattakorn Thevakul on “Voice TV” explaining the biased news media such as the Nation, the Manager, Post Today, Naewna, ASTV, and Thairath against the Red Shirts, I realize that those newspapers have been intentionally distorting the news with no fear of any consequences. I think we need to further investigate about the relationship of the biased media and those 52 persons.
Regarding to Prachatai, I wonder if the objective of those 52 persons is in fact to eliminate the Allied Forces in Thailand? Because I couldn’t see why the best quality intellectual webboard got attacked — the reason must be deeper.
Why not let Andrew Walker himself clear all suspicions on whether or not Andrew Walker is or is not pro-Thaksin?
This New Mandala website was very conveniently born during the heights of the anti-Thaksin protests in Y2006 and honed in on Thailand and Thaksin and the Thai monarchy issues at that time. And in my very early NM posters, I raised the suspicion that perhaps New Mandala was a Thaksin-funded website. Perhaps . . . still is.
But be prepared for a very convoluted answer from the Australian anthropologist.
My suspicion is that both the drought and the Xiaowan dam are contributing to historically low-water levels this year. However, I do not have access to any clear evidence. It would be good if some was made available to the public. Then we wouldn’t have to speculate on these matters.
Anyway, what is interesting is that there has recently been a lot of fanfare about the Chinese providing data to downstream countries in the MRC about the operations of two upriver dams. This is apparently the first time this has ever happened. However, the Chinese have made no mention of providing information about the Xiaowan dam, and strangely enough, the MRC doesn’t seem to be pressing China to provide information regarding that project. Instead, they appear to be content with patting themselves on the back for obtaining access to information that may be significant, but is more than likely not nearly as important as understanding what is going on with the Xiaowan dam.
The PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE FOR DEMOCRACY has returned to the political stage and will be a force to be reckoned with. We are witnessing the resurrection of truth, justice and freedom. Our meritorious amart must be allowed to guide this country forward.
However, I find myself in a bit of quandary. What am I to do with all of my yellow-hued clothing now that my royalist comrades have opted to wear pink? Why does the PAD keep on selecting effeminate colors to represent our righteous movement? Why can’t the PAD leadership choose something more masculine?
Unfounded accusations, Chris ? Pls reread Andrew’s posting. It is in fact a compliment ! Not a long time ago, if you were labelled a communist, you should be proud of it.
In fact, I just learned from watching tv that not only a Thanpuying, but also a Momluang had climbed the stage and donated a lot of money to the reds. Well, this TV station is certainly not controlled by Abhisit.

Vichai,
If Thaksin does fund such web site like this one you should be thankful to him.
“…due to the sensitive nature…”
It is being downloaded as I write this from Chiang Mai, using CAT as my ISP.

50 years’ imprisonment for not removing offensive comments fast enough … just let that concept sink in for a few moments.

I see that Andrew is attempting to undo thousands of years of ‘Asian Values’ or ‘Old Mandala’ and systems of organisation…
Yes, think it’s about time these ‘Asian Values’ are seriously rethought!
