Would be interested what Andrew & Nich are hearing from their sources?
(I’m getting tired and want to go to bed!)

  2. David Brown says:

    the redshirts have announced that:

while the redshirts were at the Interior Ministry searching for Abhisit and Suthep

2 redshirt people died, one shot by Abhisit’s security guard

and 3 redshirts were injured, one in hospital after being run over by the car with Abhisits secretary as passenger

That link has been very reliable for the last 3 days
I’m surprised you did not take notice when I gave it out 2 days ago here:

I’m a little concerned that all the usual Thai political bloggers (in English) have gone quiet.

  4. Hi, I would like to add something else to this discussion.

Do any of you realise, the King of Thailand never actually chose to be the King in the first place…….It was a position he had no choice but to take.

Think about that for a second……………….

Being a King, despite what you may believe, isn’t exactly an enviable position…..

Do you realise how seriously hard the man has had to work, throughout his entire life? The responsibility? The responsibility of his family? The responsibility of an entire nation?

    All looking to him.

These people, they have to work every single minute, of every single hour, of every single day…

And for one reason and one reason only, for the benefit of Thailand.

I’m sorry, but all of you who believe the King has other agendas, other than the good of the Thai people, are mistaken, and therefore your arguements are redundant.

You show me one single incident when the King has ordered, or been seen to be responsible for the distress or harming of a single individual throughout the entire duration of his reign?

Does anyone have any evidence of that?

    re #14

    thanks for the link

I have been using thaipeoplevoice.org which is quite glitchy

I am now trying newskythailand and selected the link to http://www.justin.tv/nationsiam which seems much more reliable

    re #15

perhaps the Democrats feel a bit insecure and need to reassure themselves

  6. Thobphon says:

    19:46 Thai Local Time,

Thairath reports that Democrat Party had released its 5th official statement that officially condemns the Reds’ action.

Some of your readers may like to follow the events in Bangkok live on stage at Government House at this link:

Dear Nongmar, okay I got a bit carried away with the excitement of the past couple of hours, but Jakrapob is hardly a great spokesman for any colour (shirt) of Thai person – as far as I am concerned.
Also, I think you should get a new remote and/or cable operator. I was able to watch a lot of news coverage on many different channels, and go back to the soaps and Korean dramas in between !

  9. Thobphon says:

Situation as of 22:02 (Canberra Time)

-Bangkok Metropolitan Administration officially announced that all festival activities in Bangkok area shall be halted.

    – Report says, APCs that rolled out are under command of First-Army-Region Commander. (which believed he is waiting in the line to be the next Commander-in-Chief of the Army)

-Now Spreading Rumor, the first gunfire will blast around midnight.

  10. nongmar says:

My wife, in a car with other (red shirt) family members, reports that the army has moved some troops to the Thaicom satellite centre in Nontaburi; just like the coup in 2006

  11. The area around Nonthaburi where I live is very calm. People go about their business as usual.

  12. Allan Beesey says:

I am not sure that Thai workers in Kachin is so strange. Maybe they are workers the contractors know and trust, and also they may have skills that are needed. Contractors could afford to pay reasonable wages I am sure. Undoubtedly a local/provincial agreement. There are Thai skilled and semi-skilled workers in Laos, mostly recently hundreds or thousands I understand in developing a lignite mine in Sayaboury.

  13. t4e says:

Thaksin phoned in to RedShirts just now , says
there wont be any military coup for sure, inspite of armored cars in Bkk.

He asks his supporters to keep calm, inspite of any harm done to them by others. He stresses they are
all Thais and no Thai should kill/do violence to other Thais.

He says if any more violence on Thais he will come to Bkk immdly and stand with RedShirts.

Jatuporn replied him all roads near Govt Hse already full of RedShirts yet no one is violent.

Suthep – Dy PM asked police just now to crackdown on
RedShirts as much as possible – he will be responsible

    t4e

  14. nganadeeleg says:

Watching on the net, the whole thing is quite surreal – watching rejoicing reds on stage at the same time as wondering if a crackdown will come.

Lets hope that the next lot in power show more humility that the last few!

  15. t4e says:

    Per Channel 7 news:

DSTV signal back up after 40 min. suspension.

RedShirts mourn loss of their killed compatriot(s) at Interior Ministry and still exhort their supporters to come to Bkk. They are singing some special Red Shirt songs – unbelievable when someone has been shot from their crowd !

Armored cars roll into Bkk, but no violence reported from army.

After emergency declaration in Bkk, over 1000+ fresh RedShirts have rushed to Govt Hse site from inside Bkk – they can’t be accomodated inside so they have spilt over onto nearby streets.

Way to airport is not blocked ,and life seems normal in streets other than near Govt Hse area.

Foreigners celebrating Songkran at Khaosan Rd with no
impact from all this – amazing Thailand indeed !

There is something unique about Thai Buddhism , for sure !

    err Regular Reader,
I took your advice. I was able to choose from comedy, a Korean drama, or ‘love the country’ ads featuring the voice of ‘Bird’ Macintyre followed by another announcement by the PM.
It doesn’t matter what station you watch, red or NBT, it’s going to be biased

  17. Thobphon says:

    Picture of a seized APC.

  18. Thobphon says:

    – From local informants, NBT (State owned Channel) says that the Government has prepared ambulances and ERs throughout Bangkok (for unstated reason).

-Also there are some announcements asking people not to celebrate Songkarn (unverified).

    – Rumors say, there might be a crack down by force tonight.

  19. David Brown says:

    6:30pm (Thai time)
rumours at the rally site (wishful thinking?) Abhisit and Suthep are preparing to fly out of the country???

forgot to mention a near life size statue of seated King Naresuan has appeared on the rally stage

Khun Nattawut is advising caution, the government is tricky so everyone needs to be calm and watchful

perhaps another tank secured (hard to hear with public address echoes)

large number of protesters, within camera range…

  20. Chris says:

    18.00

I just came back from Siam/Paragon/Centralworld.

Saw the demonstration – some red-shirts in front of the police headquarters.

Paragon and Centralworld closed now. Quite a few tourists out on the street in Siam because what else should they do….hardly any Thais.

Red-shirts have left, I didnt see the armoured army-vehicles anymore.

On the way back to Ari, on Phaholyothin saw some army persons watching traffic from bridges – not many however.
