Love the specifics. Thank you. … What about funding? How much does it cost to keep these demonstrations promoted and going? Where does that money come from? Can anybody say anything about that?
By all means, expose the gov’t malfeasance, call out the beneficiaries of misappropriated funds and their political connections. Publicly fight the unjust libel laws that prevent journalists from doing so.
Then, offer a better platform and win an election. How about that?
The Bangkok middle class is quite interesting. They occupy an international airport (usually regarded asa terrorist act). They occupy the state administration (usually at least a croiminal act). They shoot at persons assumed to have a different political opinion and they do not mind at all to let the economy go down the drain. This is a rather funny “middle class”! I thought that especially the middle class has the tendency to be more sane! The whole think started by Suthep has nothing to do with middle class or democratic politcs. It is an attempt to create chaos in the hope that this might then open opportunities. The funny middle class is a ready pawn for this, just as they were when the airport was occupied. It is class politics with the hope that if chaos happens, then the most powerful and thiose with mp restrains will win, even if it implies violence. This has already been demonstrated! The question is, does Suthep and his funny followers have an amnesty already or not yet. Perhaps if some of those who acted as terrorists, criminals etc. would have seen jail from the inside, they might be slightly more reflexive.
I saw it when Bangkok Pundit posted it and had a very good chortle. I immediately forwarded the link to several friends, many of whom are avidly anti-Thaksin/Yingluck/Pheu Thai. But seeing the humour of it doesn’t affect my view. and actually I am not at all sure that it doesn’t contain a subtext that is even quite sympathetic to “the evil one”
Suthep wants to overthrow the government tomorrow, sets up a People’s Committee and declares himself the Secretary General? I used to think that NTN had ended, but now it seems they have just moved to Bangkok Post.
Both sides are and will be corrupt – indeed corruption is everywhere in Thailand. All but the unwilling can see through Thaksin’s democratic charade now and his unwillingness to really change the decades-past-its-use-by-date-education-system confirms his role as the Emperor with No Clothes in this particular show. So while with Abhisit you will also get a “government manager” i.e. corruption Czar, you will also get real education and democratic reform, whereas with Thaksin you will continue to get nothing except the scraps from the rich man’s table.
The Red half of my extended family have been enjoying many humorous, witty, and even the occassional gutter humor on almost all members of the red leadership for years, Vichai. Gutter humor is unfortunately a requisite and is what makes the other half of the family insanely boisterous over a new years eve dine and wine and get drunk evening.
New Year is round the corner again. Then Songkran. Seriously, I for one is hoping for some humor from the other side. Any recommendation from a fellow yellow supporter should surely be appreciated by fellow yellow supporters, right?
Thanks in advance.
ps: nothing that will get anyone in trouble with les majeste please
You are wrong – Only the Democrats wants a feudal Thailand, where they can rule un-questioned. The current Govt is an elected Govt. For that matter – the current Govt and all its reincarnation previously had also been “elected Govt” Only the Democrats have been “appointed”!!
The Democrats know that they can never win an election, so they want a feudal system, where they can lord over everyone.
I never imagined that BangkokPundit has any sense of humor. But I must apologize because BangkokPundit, I found out in his post at AsiaSentinel, could enjoy and partake with good Thaksin jokes:
At the moment, the middle class people of Thailand do not care what Suthep wants anymore. All they want is for the Chinawatra family to leave the country or at least, leave the politics circle. A lot of people realize that what they want Thailand to be is not what Suthep said or promised but they gather together anyways because they want to show how much they want the Chinawatras to go.
As Indians we should be unfettered and be able to move across the length and breadth of the land with no restrictions. Having an ILP just reinforces what the Chinese have maintained about their territorial rights on Arunachal. In today’s time with satellites and the internet there are very little secrets. Indians from all over should be given the opportunity to move to Arunachal…it will bring economic independence as well as prosperity to the people as well as ensure there is integration.
“I know for a fact she ditched the amnesty bill in direct contravention of Thaksin’s wishes and they fell out very badly.”
That’s a very interesting statement you made. I assume that means you are in there somewhere as it is not common knowledge or even gossip. Do you work for the PR machine? Is that why your posts read like party political broadcasts?
I have no issue with that. Everybody has a right to get to promote themselves online. They have to as social media is here to stay.
I do think if someone has a vested interest, or is paid to voice an opinion it should be declared though. Robert Amsterdam’s position is understood so we get to take that into consideration when we see his commentary. So are these politics that you are so active in a hobby or a business?
Better question is: Who are not, repeat NOT in/with the ongoing growing and very very very peaceful and unarmed, repeat UNARMED, uproot-the-Thaksin-servants street protests.
Answer: Deep Red Shirts, Black Shirts, and the black hearts of Thailand!
Btw I recently had my heart checked and the good doctor said my heart definitely not black. Yeah. I am with the good guys!
As with any other government, decisions are collective, though unequally weighted. They are not stupid, so a good idea can be adopted no matter where it comes from. As a woman Yingluck is better qualified than a man to take a conciliatory position, which is obviously needed given that the whole game, already played twice, is about getting the other side to commit an atrocity first. In the case of the government, it is anything that can be beaten up into an atrocity by the partisan media. That means the government have to be especially careful. Who knows what her individual contribution is? She is the right front person for the government.
Who’s who in Thailand’s anti-government forces?
Love the specifics. Thank you. … What about funding? How much does it cost to keep these demonstrations promoted and going? Where does that money come from? Can anybody say anything about that?
Time to vote Democrat!

What kind of reasoning is that?
What does Suthep really want?

Uprooting the Thaksin regime
Come on you Reds! Don’t you have some Abhisit or Suthep jokes to distract you at those Jatuporn/Nattawut/Arisman ‘peaceful’ rallies.
Share us your Red humor please and at least, for me personally, let me get a glimpse of your humanity.

Come on you Reds … loosen up a bit.
What is to be done in Thailand?
Not crossed just asking. Thank you for your reply.
What is to be done in Thailand?
And I think you’d also find I was writing and saying the same things I am now back in 2008 and 2009, long before Mr Amsterdam appeared on the scene.
Like I said you’re wires are crossed.
What is to be done in Thailand?
I can confirm I am an active member of the UK Labour Party.
It says on our member cards that we are “democratic socialists” although many considered us to no longer be any kind of “socialists” at all.
I don’t work as part of any PR machine. I’m a blogger, a PhD candidate and a sometime travel writer.
I think you’ve got your wires crossed somewhere.
Time to vote Democrat!
So the current government can go and have 50 protestors shot dead now and say “well it is worse in Uganda”.
Does Thailand want to be “better than the worst” or “among the best”.
Something tells me you have an old “America Love It Or Leave” sticker on your bumper or your forehead.
