Is that really a picture of Nick lying face-down on the road and covered in blood? If not it should be removed.

  2. Peter says:

No way, Rob S. It would be the start of a Civil War.

  3. Rob S says:

Possibly a workable scenario if the Crown Prince had any shred of respect from the nations people. Given he spends very little time in Thailand as it is, this exact scenario may not have the desired impact.

Another possible option would be to have Queen Sirikit, or better still Princess Sirindhorn, fill the role. Given Queen Sirikit’s past comments maybe Princess Sirindhorn is the only person who could successfully facilitate such an event.

    Thoughts?

  4. Mitch K says:

Stay strong Nick. We need your unbiased photoevidence more than ever. The amount of (poorly) photoshopped propaganda images on these provocative facebook groups is appalling.

  5. John says:

Racism is everywhere throughout the world and it all depends on how you tackle it. Here in Australia it depends on :-

    1) the colour of your skin
    2) how you speak
    3) your name – true since my HR manager colleague openly told me that he will not interview anyone without an English name.

If it happens to you, stand up and fight for your right. If not educate others and move on with life 🙂

  6. PeteS says:

As one who has also always awaited eagerly for Nick’s factual on the ground reports these last few years I would like to add my support here for Nick. Keep safe.

As a NCD Myanmar has the dubious honor of having the most advance form of oral pathology and therapy known to western medicine due to:

    1)Betel nut chewing
    2)Smoking.

A loosing battle due to both deadly habits that are promoted by tradition even though publicly frown on.

  8. plan B says:

Education in Myanmar need to be mindful of Islamic indoctrinations, at least 2 decades/ 1 generation ahead.

Ne Win took over education in Myanmar absolutely. There were no willful religious indoctrination allowed, other than passive Buddhist related strictly sanctioned activities.

Since the start of west useless careless act education is relegated to the back due to rioting, allowing the Mullahs within mosques, old and more new one built everywhere within Myanmar, with cash from Saudi and else where, a free hand to teach supremacy of Islam.

  9. Betelspitter says:

of course they didn’t call u nick. that’s because they don’t care about u. welcome to reality and bests, BS

  10. SteveCM says:

From what I’ve seen, by far the fullest account (including an interview with Nick), is at: http://www.chiangmaicitynews.com/news.php?id=2730

Bangkok Pundit has also posted the text of a statement from the protest organisers at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/60433209@N00/11070176286

  11. Andrew Spooner says:

Nick and myself have certainly had plenty of rancour between ourselves online.

However, as soon as I heard of the attack I emailed him and wished him well and expressed my concern.

Unfortunately this entire event came as no real surprise to me – my family members received death threats and harassment in 2010 and 2011, something that led to the arrest of a British expat when they returned to the UK. This person admitted a criminal charge of harassment and received an official police caution. The person involved also told police he couldn’t stand what I was writing online and this led to him harassing my family members.

I screen-grabbed a portion of the Blue Sky Nick Nostitz hate-campaign page shortly after it appeared as I knew the Dems would try to remove it.

You can find it by copying the link below. As you can see after only 49mins of being there it had been liked almost 4000 times.

  12. BKK lawyer says:

Nick Nostitz’s reporting and photojournalism have always been exceptional. He is thorough, specific and fair. He doesn’t reach to make assertions he can’t support with his own observations; in his reports and subsequent comments he is candid about what he knows and doesn’t know. One feels confident in understanding a situation after reading Nick’s reports.

Such an attack shouldn’t happen to any journalist, obviously. But I feel especially shocked that it happened to our friend Nick.

Best wishes and р╕Вр╕нр╣Гр╕лр╣Йр╕Ыр╕ер╕нр╕Фр╕ар╕▒р╕в to Nick and his family.

  13. […] are incapable of de-escalating once these types of street protests cross a certain line. Like Nicholas Farrelly at New Mandala, I suspect that, even if the Thai government holds for a short period of time, Thailand is headed […]

Read the comments. Every single one is an anti-farang hate comment.

  15. Halfandhalf says:

    Be safe Nick.

After living in Thailand for eight years, I am sensing deja-vu again. Some Thais are gleefully jumping into he rabbit hole. I don’t believe TS is a saint but come on now, are we going to endure another airport shutdown? Are we Thais going to be more “pure” without TS and his political machine? I like to tell my foreign friends that the laws of physics does not apply here in Thailand (should trade mark that line). There is a reset button that someone high and mighty likes to push when they are not winning the game.

The “red buffalos” is too stupid to think for themselves so goes the saying. I think the urbanites and elitists and everyone who thinks that everyone else is stupid so we can think for them need to look at themselves and wash the manure covering their eyes and look at themselves in the mirror. And they might find a buffalo staring back at them.

  16. Steve of Chiang Mai says:

Pleased to see Nick unharmed – his photographic documentation of this troubling era in Thai history has been valuable. Would that the other 2 journalists who ran foul of a different mob inspired by Khun Suthep could have been so lucky.

  17. Sam Deedes says:

Proud to own a signed copy of “Red Versus Yellow”. BUY NICK’S BOOKS!

  18. Todd Indehar says:

Nick, I am sorry about what happened to you. You stand for righteousness, truth and sunshine.

Sadly there is an insane (demonic) factor at work in parts of the elitist group that clouds their thinking and causes the kinds of violence, vitriol, lying and actions that we are seeing, and that you experienced.

I hope you can find a way to keep up your important work. Your work means a lot, especially to the Thai people I know who have been oppressed for so long.

  19. neptunian says:

Have to ask the Democrats – Only country in the world where a two party system means 1 party always voted in and the other gets to govern via an over throw of sorts!

  20. The work of Nick Nostitz is just great. the fact that it is a MP to show Nick to a mob is appalling and terryfing …. and this explains why no democrat shows him any kind of solidariety at all …. it ‘s just the other face of coin of land of smiles, the ugly face that we have to reckon on. they make me hope that yingluck wont give in, even after amnesty bill.
