The citizenry could and do turn to be nasty and foul when they perceive to their political masters, elected or not, to be in blatantly and outrageously offensive in their conduct.

The Yingluck regime’s persistent tweaking of the constitution to whitewash Yingluck’s fugitive brother Thaksin of long list constitutional transgression was vomit-inducing offensive to the intelligence of Thailand’s millions. Thus the Yingluck regime and those 310 Thaksin-servants posing as legislators deserve every drop of vomit, literal or figurative, hurled at them.

The same angry citizenry are now even more incensed that Yingluck and her 310-legislator-servants had not apologized, and, even publicly rejected the Constitution Court’s judgment on that shitty constitutional amendment of amnesty (to Thaksin). If the Yingluck government willfully disrespects the laws, why should Yingluck government now expect that the citizenry respect any of its directives, including the imposition if the Internal Security Act?

What is it about about receiving the “majority votes” that gives the Yingluck regime and the Shinawatra clan their impunity to believe themselves above the Thai constitution, and, above the rule of law?

    Fast recovery krub khun Nick.

  3. Roy Anderson says:

As a farang it is my duty to fight oppression wherever I see it. I just happen to live in Thailand. To turn a blind eye to events taking place is a moral crime for anyone. Germany is a prime example of people being afraid to challenge the Nazi regime as they saw friends who challenged the Nazis murdered.

  4. Nick Nostitz says:

Thank you all very much for the encouraging comments, especially also the posters who have strongly disagreed with me here. This is much appreciated.
The beating was fortunately not as bad as it could have been, yet of course it was quite shocking to be target in such a mob attack.

I am quite concerned though about the ongoing hate campaign. This makes it impossible for me to continue working on these protests. I was even advised not to leave my house after dark.

What on a human level is more than disappointing for me is that not one single Democrat Party MP, many whom i have known for quite a while, and had often inspiring conversations with, has bothered to call me up or to contact me to find a solution to this mess.

  5. hrk says:

After occupying now some ministries, does anybody know when the airport shall be closed again?

  6. Betelspitter says:

as we all know, farang should stay clear from thai politics OR they should collaborate with the feudal establishment/elite. one can know/understand/study as much as one wants about thai politics, in the end the powers that be do NOT tolerate critical foreign intermeddle. nick is a brave idealist man, the world is a bad place.

  7. hrk says:

What is to be expected. Gangsters do not appreciate public exposure.

Readers here may be interested to note that this discus-sion is currently blocked by our ever-vigilant MICT.

This may be due to the fact that a student bookseller has been charged with L-M, apparently for distributing photocopies of р╕Бр╕Зр╕Ир╕▒р╕Бр╕гр╕Ыр╕╡р╕ир╕▓р╕И at Sondhi Limthongkul’s pre-PAD rallies in Lumpini Park.

I will try to get the details which Andrew Marshall has redacted from the charge sheet.

Meanwhile, more details at Political Prisoners in Thailand: “Old book leads to new lese majeste charge” http://thaipoliticalprisoners.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/old-book-leads-to-new-lese-majeste-charge/.

  9. PA Elephant says:

Hey Nick, there is nothing to add what Nicholas wrote about your work. But reading and critical reflection didn’t promise to be a trait of the authoritarian thugs out there. I guess I can speak on behalf of everbody of (extended) Kaiserschmarn connection: don’t let this incident disencourage you from your work, get well soon, and stay safe!

  10. Srithanonchai says:

Right–we are all writing so that historians in 60 years will have some material to work with. Ha!

  11. Roy Anderson says:

Thanks for clarifying your previous comments as I am a supporter of the UDD, anti Thaksin politically and of course a supporter of the anti 112 and computer crimes act 2007.

  12. Mango Man says:

Maybe the inevitable outcome of an education system treated with contempt and a constant diet of force-fed nationalism?

  13. Mango Man says:

Sorry Roy – maybe too subtle. Your point is exactly my point. I believe that uncritical typecasting which brands a journalist “red and should be dead” is precisely what underlies Thailand’s problems.

Surely, when people put on coloured shirts, they also willingly embrace the stereotype that goes with it? If not why wear it?

BTW Suthep’s support is a pretty rag-tag bunch that includes vocational student gangs usually more at home murdering people on buses.

  14. We’ve also issued a statement on the incident. Totally uncalled for attacks and witch-hunting.

  15. ynot says:

I am glad to see all the support and good wishes here for Nick. May you be safe.

  16. Ron Torrence says:

Nich and Peter, unfortunately, I have a Nephew that a year ago married a poor Isan girl who came to Bangkok, put herself through Ramkam-whatever University, and has been working in the Post Today office for 20+ years. She has totally forgotten her “roots” and is one of those hater people. Sometimes he calls me with his head spinning, wanting me to help clear up what has him spinning.

The just totally ignorant ranting and raving they do is like echoing the ranting of the speakers on stage of ,take your pick, they are all the same, a protest or rally, any side, any color.
I am long winded, better stop there
    Peace brothers.

  17. Kit says:

Right on, Nick! Or left on, if you prefer!

  18. Siriphorn says:

I feel very sorry for that. Don’t know what to say in word, feeling shameful and sad what Thai people on street had done to Nick.

  19. Ron Torrence says:

arthurson, funny thing is, that, about an hour or so ago, I told my wife that I felt Nick was my friend, because his reports always seem to speak directly to me. His excellent use of words allows one to see through his eyes what he was seeing (Nick, don’t let this go to your head, it is an observation not a compliment, heh heh). I have been anxiously awaiting a short comment of some kind from Nick, as I know I can believe what he writes.

Nick, if you need backup, if you want someone to cover your back, friends would be happy to jump into my truck, and go down there. A lot emotions about a friend in need.

  20. Roy Anderson says:

    Mango Man.
You totally cast all red shirts supporters as under educated. Your type casting is way off.You also state that the over educated Yellows etc. Are you just talking here about the DP as most of Sutheps support comes from the south. TYPE CASTING is a foolish thing to do in Thailand’s political landscape and represents ignorance.
