I have seen mountains made from molehills but this piece takes the cake. Did it ever occur to the writer that these royals siblings might both have seen the Dutch coronation party as a great excuse to take a break from the routine of hospital life both their parents now suffer?
Excellent piece on a clearly unacceptable form of apartheid politics. The myth of race persists and festers in Malaysia coupled with exclusivist Islamism . BN are far worse than the British colonialists ever were. The orang asli and mutiple minorities should revive an Iban tradition to get rid of the monster killing a great country
Reds and Thaksin would prefer Sia O to be King because the Prince carries so much baggage and so unpopular the monarchy could quickly collapse thus . But if the deeply adored Sitindhorn becomes reigning queen instead the Thai monarchy could survive and even strengthen which is not what the Reds and Thaksin would want
Sorry, but you got two groups mixed up – P-Move is at Government House.
The group at Sanam Luang calls itself Thai People Network, formerly known as Thai Patriot Network (Hua Jai Rak Chart), led by Chaiwat Sinsuwong. This group is clearly part of the many Yellow groups, and was formerly part of the PAD (and still is linked).
It is not yet clear if P-Move is associated with the Yellow side. So far P-Move has not just in interviews stated that it is not connected, it also has kept physical distance from the group gathered at Sanam Luang.
While the group at Sanam Luang rallies on Preah Vihaer, the usual anti-Thaksin agendas, and the ouster of this government, i have not heard that P-Move rallies on anything else than certain issues related to poverty, environmental and land rights issues, but not on the ouster of the government.
I question P-move given it’s links to the PAD. On facebook, I also see PAD members claiming P-move is a grassroots movement devoted to removing the current government.
It’s possible that the recent ‘no protesters allowed’ at the Water Summit was based on the assumption that P-move was just another PAD group hiding under yet another different name/color.
But, lately, P-move has also been very peaceful, hasn’t called for a coup or said/supported anything undemocratic, or went up stage railing against the evils of the current government. Their demands seem very justified.
I dont know whether these people join any side or not but you guys seem not to know that there’s a large number of people that dont agree with both sides of parliament (hence both colors). What we need is just an upright n honest politician that wouldnt concern only about their money. Thai politic now is just like two big companies fighting against each other to be more powerful and therefore gain more money(surely is our tax …)
As a Thai, i absolutely disagree with Ethan’s thought(pressed thump up bcos of misreading haha) it is true about the prince that he is the one Thaksin can approach. But it’s def not true that most people still support that escaped prisoner esp since his sister became our PM (as a college student i dont interest much in country’s financial situation but i do know that they’ve already wasted billions in their stupid populism policy). who’ll kno what shit gna happen next if we let the man Thaksin can approach to be enthroned. I therefore strongly need our beloved princess to be enthroned. She never once get involved in political issues and therefore wouldnt be used as a political tool for those dirty politicians(of both sides)

In the hey days of the cold-war Kremlinologists and Sinologists constructed elaborate theories of political intrigue based on little more than who was standing next to who atop the walls of the Kremlin or Tiananmen Gate. Such analysis is still alive and well amongst North Korea watchers. And, so it seems, in Thailand too.
It is clear that P-move has been supported by Democrat party. Even through they break Bangkok Metropolitan Administration law as using Sanam Luang Park for political movement, but the governor of Bangkok, from Democrat party, give them water supply as well as Bangkok mobile toilet buses.
I’ll take them more seriously, once they get rid of the remnants of the PAD in their ranks. We all know how much the PAD loves to use different names as a cover to show how ‘numerous’ their support is. For all I know, PMove is just another name on the same old product.

I prefer Prince Vajiralongkorn to be the next king. Because Princess Sirindhorn is too close to the army dictators and she might has the same idea as her younger, sister Prince Chulabhorn, who even used to blame red-shirt movements on TV. On the other hand, Prince Vajiralongkorn is the person that Thaksin Shinawatra can approach. And most of Thai people still support Thaksin. According to Palace Law on Succession to the throne, Prince Vajiralongkorn should be the next king.
I know very little of this P Move group. Their cause seems noble enough. Are they trying to get a better deal from whatever government is in power, or is it only the present government they have a gripe with?

“the critical question remains whether Bersih’s concerted efforts will actually bring some, if any institutional reform to Malaysia’s electoral system and process.”
There can be no question about the pivotal role Bersih has played in the awaking of the political conciousness and role that responsible and everyday Malaysians need to and must play in deciding the political route the country is to take. In concert with the many vocal social and environmental activists NGOs, the combined efforts have paid off in the latest GE result. A result that have and will greatly influence the present and future political landscape of the country.
Having vigorously stirred and awaken the otherwise apathetic attitude of many Malaysians, especially those of the younger generations, the demand for real institutional reforms in Malaysia’s electoral system and processes remain at the top of the agenda. And if you cannot get the government of the day to reform and change it, you go change the government of the day!

Would Vajiralongkorn really want to be King, given he might not be able to retain his present lifestyle?
I predict Vajiralongkorn becoming King, but the Princess will become the public spokesman and exercise many of the powers.
