Another day, similar forum, still outdated SOS.

Desperation of Abject Poverty –> Create Milieu for dictatorship that promise stability –> dictatorship, is self serving by convention –> maintain the Abject Poverty status to control the citizenry.

This vicious cycle unique to Myanmar has entered its 4th generation with all the respective cursed trappings.

Thanks but no thanks to the West useless careless policy that made the latter 2 generation.

Being Bamar, knowing the history well, continue to chant “Révolucion”, purely out of spike for this present dictatorship, as if more SOS , of useless careless distractions need to be heap onto the suffering of the humanity within Myanmar.

“ASSK appears….. elitist, never one for effective mass action nor professing genuine faith in People Power.”

This is in fact the worst danger Burma faces today. As she enjoys genuine love by and moral authority over untold millions. And it is a “one man” band. With hardly any worthwhile advisor around where the only one, U Win Tin, seems to be somewhat aloof.

The whole global eruption follows that fateful “upper class” dinner with Mr and Mrs President ( no dog was reported here.) on the 18th August 2011. There is no public knowledge of what transpires then or subsequent numerous one-to-many ( many on the visitors’ part and herself alone) international meetings. All based on faith as in Christ or Mohammed.

If the Kachin genuinely believes in her based on her pronouncements that Aung San Suu Kyi is going to be steadfast on standing up for them (only a right thing to do) they would have avoided their own blood shed.

Here it is important to note that this most violent war in Burmese history is not being blamed on Aung San Suu Kyi but simply that she was not trusted enough for the parties concern. The same goes for the 5 monks who literally risked their lives protesting in Mandalay and now forgotten.

Democracy is not a Greek invention or American practice. It is giving the people true and accurate information and genuine, honest assessment and ASK them “What They Want”. Something not really practised anywhere. Hence there are problems the world over.

Where there is freedom of choice, there is misinformation. Hence the Burmese tycoons entice Aung Zaw with luxuries. Telling the people what to do or what to believe like those being done today by Aung San Suu Kyi and Min Ko Naing , well intended, is not democracy.

Which percentage of the 40 odd million poor farmers want the country to be like Singapore and use iPAD’s?

Contrary to the euphoria, trouble and chaos awaits. Because we are rudderless.

  3. Moe Aung says:

Plan B of course has never shown any indication of any belief in popular struggle. Not at all surprising among his ilk who seem to have absolute faith in a technological fix sans proper political/economic leadership where superpower intervention/manipulation necessarily becomes a fundamental force. Even his opposition bogeyman ASSK appears to have the same kind of approach in her own way, in other words elitist, never one for effective mass action nor professing genuine faith in People Power.

“Those who know better not to and did harm must bear the most responsibility for the consequences.”

This is one of the most fundamental concept of justice.

The details of this shameful legacy and its reverberating consequences can be found in any history books with usual biases but the same theme on the very West idiocy “Dominoes Theory”.

There is no substitute to ‘promoting true economic well being’, to alleviate, instead of inducing, ABJECT POVERTY the most fundamental violation of Human Rights .

With Japan, Taiwan and S.Korea then as example the West effect the destructive means in S. Vietnam with their useless careless policy.

Vietnam and China as most recent examples the the outdated chauvinistic approach of ‘whip the citizenry to abject poverty in order get to the bad government’ in Asian countries continue.

In the former S. Vietnam, presently fueling the unprecedented Vietnamese economy are the left over infra structure meant to support the war in the delta area.

Yet from this article of lamentation here, still refuse to dignify “economic advancement of any citizenry is the best way to eventual change the respective government”.

Malaysia is wrongly constituted and will not be able to sustain itself much longer. Imagine that if the promoter of Malaysia had accepted Onn Ja’afar’s attempt of a multiracial, ethnic party in 1951 and this notion supported by the British, perhaps we would have made much success in all fields.

The issue of who is Malay, a Bumiputra, Muslim culture or a Muslim is confused. While an Indian Muslim can be the Prime Minister of Malaysia a Chinese or Indian non-Muslim cannot. These are just the tip of the iceberg. The point made here is that at birth Malaysia was wrongly conceived. While an Arab can be a Bumiputra in Perak, he can’t in Johor. The question is you may want to ask is why after nearly 6 decades this is happening. My answer is simply this with some basic background first.

Today, the majority of the Malay community has not accepted On Ja’afar’s suggestion of 1951 but has become unhappy with the state of affairs in the country. Within the Bumiputra class there are new categories [this is common in many countries with affirmative programs]. In short some Bumiputra have become more Bumiputras than others. The latter we shall call BUMI +.

BUMI+ could not become rich and famous without his collective-so families in Malaysia have ruled Malaysia for 50 odd years and their siblings were members of large corporations or with the military to maintain control. I think many years ago DR. Lim Mah Huei wrote an article dealing with nepotism and how families controlled Malaysia. Since then a few other families have been welcomed into the club. It would be pertinent to note that BUMI + has many non-Bumiputras working for them [which mutually benefitted both parties]. Recent Forbes list show 27 Chinese are the richest men in Malaysia out of 40. That is more than half which shows that UMNO is being carried by MCA and MIC [the latter has become insignificant]. All coalition parties to stay in power and “make money” support UMNO and their policies of racial discrimination and continued corruption. Recent resignations of a Minister and the Chairwoman of the Securities Commission don’t count because elections are forthcoming and the public outcry is of anger with the government.

Without losing the point, “the Bumiputra class war has begun”. Muslim Malays are angry with the government. Thousands are unemployed or struggling to make ends meet when they witness blatant fraud and corruption rampant in Malaysia. This is why we have thousands supporting Anwar Ibrahim and happy to see PAS come to power. A non-Muslim would prefer PAS to an UMNO led government because they are unable to comprehend the hypocrisy or the deceit. In my view, although there are many “right thinking Muslims” who want fairness on merit as well as procedurally, there are many who want change because corruption is suffocating Malaysia and Malaysians.

    “Dan D”:

The PAD crowd was around 2000 to 3000, which includes representatives from many of their provincial chapters. This is the amount of people that the PAD nowadays manages to get. If they stretch their resources the PAD manages to get maybe up to 5000 supporters.

    “bunny”:

Yes, indeed, the military is not supporting the PAD anymore. The parts of the military that supported the PAD once have switched their support to Siam Samakkhi, as have the Democrat Party and affiliated senators and academics.
One of the reasons for the PAD not engaging into large scale street protests now is simply because they are not able to – as we have seen during their protests in the first half of 2011, in which they had on average only several hundred protesters at their rally site.

Also important to point out is Sondhi Limthongkul’s speech – which had very strong religious overtones, full of his prophecies and warnings against karmic repercussions against the many quarters that want to harm him. He also referred to his prison sentence, and again to the attempt on his life, connecting his survival (again) somehow to his fight for the monarchy and that whoever fights truly for the monarchy will not be seriously harmed.
He finished with pointing out the difficult financial situation ASTV is in, asking for support, and many people went to and on the stage donating money.

The finishing part of Pipob’s speech, which i listened to, contained his explanations of Thailand’s “patiroop”, which will have to come through “baramee”, and therefore through the king as he has the most “baramee” in Thailand.

At the present situation it is illusionary that the UDD will openly support the Nitirat proposals and break with PTP. While a large amount of Red Shirts may privately support Nitirat, most Red Shirts believe that it is premature to go that far, and would cause a new round of open and violent clashes with the establishment, and a bloodbath the UDD – their leadership, their former leaders now MP’s and their allies in the PTP – want to avoid.

Andrew Walker: “The relevant chapter in Forest Guardians, Forest Destroyers reviews a lot of the scientific evidence. The key fact, as stated on page 101…”

Thanks. I brought your book to work today and was reading exactly that section a couple of minutes ago. Seems like the research cited in the newspaper article lacked adequate scientific peer review perhaps? Given the importance of climate related phenomena recently (floods, droughts) this research area certainly has a new relevance for people’s lives. 🙂

[Note: This whole thing is also interesting from the perspective of Burmese history also because one the stock truisms claimed without proof is that all the trees were cut down in ancient Pagan and then the climate became dryer (or something roughly like that). Historian of Burma Victor Lieberman deals with long-term climate patterns in his book Strange Parallels. Will have to look at this again.]

    Hai PlanB,

Maybe you should stop using “Google Translate” Sounds like Mao’s redbook translated with Google!

BTW, I do agree that a lot of issues were caused by the West, imposing rule thru the barrel of the gun, but the locals (elites especially) have a lot to answer for. Where are the statemen who will put aside selfish gains for the betterment of the country?

In the words of Shakespear “I see not one amongst you….”

  10. bunny says:

    2 points:

    1. oddly enough, PAD leaders said “the military will side with whomever gives them a fat cheque”, whereas Bangkokpost report said “A quick tally found one-third of those who attended said it was not the time for the PAD to stage a rally without the support of other parties, including the military.” (http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/283798/pad-shelves-mass-rally-over-constitution).

Obviously PAD and military are no longer the sweetest bedfellows and yet they seem to still agree that they can’t live without each other.

    2. Red leaders maintained they “want to amend article 291 without touching the clause regarding the monarchy”, whereas Ajarn Worajade suggested that red shirts should “break free” from PTP at this issue and stand out for LM amendment.

Ajarn Worajade said that the red shirts mobilization can accelerate if they rise up for LM amendment. Honestly, I believe the mobilizable force for LM amendment should lie mostly in the red. However, red shirts leaders have made it clear that they would not sign up for the campaign.

So where will the red shirts stand in the matter of LM amendment? will those red shirts who are supportive to nitirat “break free” from UDD and PTP?

    Perhaps you should engage brain or at least visit the library or browse the web before making statements;

    1. I assume you are Malay. You are not the indigeneous people. The orang asli (malay word for indigineous) are
    2. If you are a “mamak” bumiputra, then you are even less of an indigigeneous people
    3. Malaysian (Malaya) citizenship did not exist before 1957. People just live on the land, regardless of where they come from.
    4. Chinese, Indians, Arabs were in Penisula Malaya since the 1300s. Whereas some “malays were earlier, a large percentage of “malays were came later
    5. Parameswara was a Hindu (check out the name)
    6. Bumiputra (prince of the earth) is a political concoction and seriously abuse by Mahathir, who by the way is of Indian parentage. In case you do not know and he was look upon as the N) 1 Bumiputra…??? how is that? indigenous?

Lastly, wealth in Malaysia is controlled by GLCs not Chinese Malaysians.. GLCs in all intend and purpose are “trust” holders for Bumiputras. If you are not a member of the “elite” too bad for you. Don’t blame the Chinese, go get some share from the “elite” If you are a member of the “elite”, please don’t use the Chinese as an excuse to continue “screwing” your fellow “Malays”

It seems to me you are basically stating that “Asians”, whether they are Cambodian, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. have no responsibility whatsoever for their own actions, decisions, worldviews and independent will. That all Asians are merely pawns and tools of diabolical, insanely clever and manipulative “Westerners”.

I don’t believe that is actually true and considerably over-rates the abilities/intelligence/will-power of “Westerners” and under-rates the abilities/intelligence/will-power of “Asians”.

When PAD maintains that politicians are corrupt, don’t forget that these politicians are in good company, i.e., the whole Thai populace. It is one national trait of Thai people to cheat, and PAD people are no exception. Our Sondhi Limthongkul, for example, has been shown in the court of justice to be quite adept at it.

Minor vs Major players aside, the frame work within which ALL these guilty parties, that you have stated, ARE set by the West policy under the flawed “Dominoes Theory” assumption. The historical reverberating consequences is still ongoing. As will be with the policy based on supporting DASSK in Myanmar instead of the Citizenry.

Therefore the comments on the redemptive insights still stand.

  18. plan B says:

The ‘name game’, the most peripheral of the impotence of issues facing the humanity within Myanmar , is the result of the West equating the fate of a country of 55 million citizenry as the sum of DASSK and/or any ethnic or related issues vs this present dictatorship.

The West blindly choose DASSK as the ultimate arbiter, the epitome of which Myanmar vs Burma, Burmese vs Myanarese, become more important than ending the injustice of all injustices of ongoing useless careless policy.

Not until this odious fact is expounded and reversed, the devastating effect on the 55 mil within, whom neither care nor even know this useless careless exercise, will persist unabated, while DASSK, and the West strut along as though none are as guilty as the present dictators represented now by Thein Sein.

  19. plan B says:

    @3 & 4

Recalling the numerous past posts in New Mandala , guilty like many others, directly and indirectly complicit to making the present military dictator the master dealer:

    1) Elevating the importance of DASSK through the useless careless policy, under the catchy vaguest nonsense of “Democracy” that she used to fool everyone.

    2) Personal character assassination to EVERY reasonable, advocates such as Dr Steinberg and Thant Myint-U and Ko Aung Zaw who either disagree with the useless careless policy or touted history based moderation.

    The differences b/t both of you and the general westerners posters are;

    1) Both are familiar with the History of Myanmar, first hand

    2) Choose only to condemn, even now, for condemning sake.

Thus projecting the unpardonable impression, to the vast ignorant yet interested , in Myanmar citizenry well being as ONLY the sum of the struggle b/t DASSK or any latest nefarious injustice by this dictatorship vs the dictatorship.

Talk about missing the forest for the trees.
