I felt bad for the prince really, the whole thing happened because the Abhisit government doesn’t want to pay the debt and the prince took the fall for it.
Gee… doesn’t that act on the part of the putsch cabinet expose The Institution to public ridicule and disrepute?
Doesn’t that constitute textbook lèse majesté?
Shouldn’t the entire cabinet be in remand prison as I write, without bail, for two or three years prior to the gracious offer of half-time sentences for guilty pleas from the State?
Fabian (10), I think you’ll find that the aircraft has been seized on the order of the court, which is an arm of (the Bavarian?) Government. But the courts in Germany are completely independent of the executive. That is what Kasit doesn’t understand. He must think they are like the corrupt Thai courts which can be pushed around by anyone with enough power. He can pressure the German Federal Government all he likes, but the Government will not interfere with the Court. Kasit’s behaviour has been unbelievably bad. What a jerk! How hugely entertaining!
“Sonthi invoked his religion! And then broke his vow.”
Since, from Sonthi’s perspective, both the monarchy and democracy were in acute danger of being subverted by Thaksin, they needed to be saved by a coup. This morally superior need must have trumped the small issue of keeping his vow.
Daresay if if they confiscate the plane the military will just ask for and get a new upgraded one, not a matter of budget concerns, who would dare say no?
Anywhere in NM archive in one of the numerous topics about the CP there must be a comment from a German reader mentioning a visit by the CP on a local Fairground in 2008 (with link to a German webboard) . The following year a local newspaper catched him on another Fairground. Both are in close vicinity to MUC.
A few weeks ago, the same newspaper found him in the strawberry fields:
Werner seems to be determined to put the matter to rest, so this one could run and run. Poor old CP may have to come back on Thai Inter – no doubt he’ll insist on piloting it; just glad I won’t be on it.
I don’t think that’s exactly true. As far as tourism is concerned, I’m fully aware that many of my friends and colleagues in Laos (Lao nationals and foreign consultants) are working hard to make sure that tourist dollars are trickling down to the grassroot communities. Asian Development Bank’s projects are all for sustainable tourism and pro-poor. And I think LNTA is doing a good job and is fully aware of the negative impacts tourism will bring.

Given the Thai embassy in Australia’s form for suppressing academic expression, what guarantees can be given that candidates will be afforded free reign to express views that are not supported by the embassy, in particular those relating to the monarchy, lese majeste, and the current abuse of privileges by elite families, among others?
Hate to say it but someone or some people are being quite sexist and non-understanding of household economics when they question what is a Master’s degree in Home Economics. Anyone that runs or manages a household, especially one as large as anyone of a royal household would know that home economics is not an applied field of academic study that can be ignored. It would appear that some of your readers need some “lessons” the gendered nature of economics……………..
The good things are Laos will prosper from trade and tourism from China and the neighboring Greater Mekong (GMS) countries.
I can only imagine that the few Laos who so prosper from the sale of their country will be the usual class of compradors who sell out their country and countrymen.
Political Prisoners in Thailand has had two posts on the topic, both derivative of BP’s, but making some of the points made above. There general point is worth considering:
“The question of ownership and the distinction between state property and that of the royals is complicated. For example, the Crown Property Bureau has claimed that its assets are state property when clearly they are not.
It is increasingly clear that while the distinction between royal property and state property was made clear several decades ago, the increasing wealth of the royal family, its extensive business interests, and the campaigns of several decades to restore the political and economic power of the monarchy have increasingly blurred the distinction. Fawning of the monarchy by state officials also means that almost no one is prepared to raise questions when state property is transmogrified into something else.”
they were thieves and the stake is too much to let go, hence their irrational or rather foolish behaviour…they are simply afraid of their own shadow so to say with so much skeletons in the closet….
Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya (…) claims that “[t]his airplane is personal property, not that of the Thai government. So the German government cannot seize it…”
The German government?
The German government is not involved in this. The guy is acting on behalf of his client and just uses the tools that the german law provides in these cases.
I don’t really think that the German government is very happy about this, but they are just not legitimized to do anything about it.
So a) Kasit is right. The German government cannot seize it.
b) The German government didn’t seize it but an individual seized it according to the law. c) In this case this German individual CAN seize it.
Hi Clive,
What the cousins did/do vis-a-vis “Bersih” has little to do with their struggles with the opposition. With internal strife within UMNO which is real, the “chest thumping’ with regards to “Bersih” is not a priority. The internal power struggle within UMNO ( The cousins and TDM’s protege’s) has a clear winner, it would not take too long for the coalition parties within BN to decide who they should be supporting.
It is highly unlikely the cousins will be let down by BN coalition partners. The coalition partners, in current form are more likely looking for a way out of the BN coalition but too proud to put their lot behind the opposition. Anwar is perceived as a baggage. So,,
It still boils down to UMNO politics that decide BN politics.
I think Kasit is so used to lying he forgot that if his lies ‘defame’ a foreigner, he can be liable for them in a foreign court.
He said that the liquidator ‘faked’ the evidence, and the German Court was gullible to believe the liquidator’s fake evidence. That is a serious allegation, and the liquidator can take action on defamation if it is not true.
These Thai elites are so spoiled in Thailand with their lying since they know that the Court will never rule against them, since they are all in the same side. They probably have forgotten that they cannot manipulate the German Court like they did with the Thai Courts. Come on Germany, sue him for defamation. I would love to see what’d happen!
As an outsider hearing a lot of news from friends there especially how the ruling umno is dictating everything in Malaysia is even unbearable to non Malaysian who have friends there, i think it is time to change or it is going to be uncontrolble like what has happen in Egypt and the countries over there. I hope the UMNO can correct things by learning from what is happening in the Arab countries now which nobody ever thought it will happen.
Ironically, the government whose leaders chose to defy the King’s principled and widely welcomed intervention instead arrested the members of a small opposition party on charges of “making war against the king” – not by force of arms, but by wearing and distributing yellow Bersih T-shirts!
another biased report! and lies.
the real reason these group of people was detained due to having shirts related to communis was not mentioned.
well i guess u all are not too educated to read my comment. well i dont edit my comment as i said previously. so its my fault then but then since when english is the issue here??
mr neptunian, u may call me little.. well i think “urs” is much more little than me. furthermore, shud i write in Bahasa, i m afraid u may not understand what may be saying.
by the way mr andrew, since when bersih 2.0 main agenda is about the special previlleges to the bumi??
as i said, to all of u malaysian, if u are not satisfied or felt discriminate by it, then just pack your bag n surrender ur citizenship. just go to other country which practice meritocracy in their society.
those who dont enjoy this privilleges and felt that there is a discrimination or some sort of apartheid system being implemented in malaysia should learn the history. you should indulge in the history book n learn by heart how this nation was created. learn to know what is the meaning of social contract and why it was created.
if you still cannot understand the reason why or simply just being ignorance of the reason why, it wud be my pleasure to stick the main purpose of the social contract into ur thick skull.
bersih 2.0 agenda is only about reformation of the election.
they are accusing that the elction have been rigged n there is no tranparancy in the election.
well i wonder why is that the oppostion manage to win in perak, kedah, selangor and penang. the opposition claimed that there is a lot of ghost voters, or the result was rigged and other unthinkable excuse whenever they lost.
but when they win, they claimed that the electors want a change. thats why they won in those state.
there is no issue on ghost voters or that the election commission rigged the result.
the opposition have yet or in this case mr andrew have not point out why they win! aren’t there any ghost voters ?? is there any rigged result??
none….!!!
the real factor why BN lost those state was because of Pak Lah factor. he is not a leader. he was not a strong and capable leader to lead the BN. he does not have a strong character. the reason why BN won a lot in 2004 was due to mahathir factor.
well i m really waiting for the next election. to see if there is really a real change of gov as like some people in this forum claimed. they said that the oppostion will win at least 8 states.. i wonder which state it is!!
so dont pull your bluff here. claiming opposition have such support.
honestly there aren’t.
it seem they have support as many blog or comment in the internet condemning the gov.
the are less support or comment which support the gov.
reason.. simply because the gov supporter are just fed up with all this bullshit that the opposition put in the internet.
i look at all ur comments , it is full of personal feeling. not using proper fact of just plain lies. cos using facts which are not real!! for example claiming there are food crisis, or economic crisis, or people disappeared without trace as if malaysia have a secret police.
mr andrew have yet to give a facts on this.
if you look at economic issues.. even the US have economic problem. in fact they are the cause of the economic problem we have now. remember the subprime issue?? remember how it affected the whole world.. remember the currecny crisis in 1998??
anyway, by calling names, using foul languages. well it shows your manners. furthermore, it tells that there are a lot of hate, anger and vile in your mind. for this, i dont feel any anger but pity…
That makes sense. One further observation about this evolving story is that the Thai media, again, fails to ask the key questions about big international stories that break in its backyard. I am reminded of this post from earlier in the year where I questioned this mentality.
