    Tarrin,

I don’t want to speak for Simon but I guess he meant the it’s not your preferences that are disconnected from reality, you can like whatever party or politicians you want, it’s your assessment of preferences of others that is plain wrong.

There’s not observable backlash against Democrats, for example, it has nothing to do with whether you agree or disagree with their polices, but if you claim that people soundly rejected Abhisit’s handling of April-May crisis, than Simon can say that this assessment is disconnected from reality.

It was Suzie Wong, not me, who wrote –
“the Crown Property and the King became the largest land-owner and the richest family in the world.”
I merely replied to her inaccuracy.
The CPB and the King is NOT the largest land-owner ….in the world”
In fact Forbes, makes no such claim.
Ralph you have n’t told me anything I don’t already know on this topic, so it is you who is not being helpful.

The attackS, plural, with “s”, were attributed directly to Prime Minister himself, not to his spokesman or PM’s office.

The “source” that Amsterdam has given, a page on his own blog, does not contain any sign of Prime Minister’s opinions on the white paper whatsoever, deals exclusively with Theptai, and even implies that Abhisit disapproves of his reaction.

Even for Theptai, referring to Thaksin’s foreign lobbyists as “farang ta nam khao”, however unpleasant, is NOT “groundless and slanderous attacks”, not even in Amsterdam’s own words – “racial slur”.

The idea is that people would just assume that the author had provided valid proof and get on with the reading, and would remember author’s own description of Abhisit’s reaction, not the provided evidence (which doesn’t even exist).

the obscene cover-up continues………Fabio Polenghi was murdered by a Thai Army sniper with a single sniper bullet……and there will never be any accountability or actual investigation……..

“Amsterdam’s works are filled with all kinds of propaganda tricks that would take days if not months to unravel.”
He’s certainly not the only one – all sides are doing it.
You don’t need to take months to untangle the lot – just give us a few examples.

    Thepthai IS Abhisit’s spokesman.

Read that slowly and then deduce what that means.

Most people will infer that as he’s PM Abhisit’s spokesman he speaks for Abhisit. Although, I’m sure, others, such as yourself, will deduce some other unexpected and unexplainable meaning. Maybe he’s a “Thai-style spokesman”?

Thepthai was slapped down for making his absurd Red Shirt training camp comments.

    Read the links.

That puts a question mark over his credibility.

As for citing Thai Rath – you claimed before there was NO source.

Now you’re admitting there was a source all along just not in English.

Does that mean it is not a source? Am getting increasingly confused by your chicanery.

In Thai Rath Thepthai dismisses the white paper cos it was written by a “farang ta nam khao” – that’s a pejorative slur based on a person’s race not their argument. That comment, so far, is the only response from the govt/Dems on the WP. A racial slur.

Or maybe I’ve read it all wrong and it’s just evidence of “Thai-style debating skills”?

For more of the same, over to you StanG…

(btw, which StanG are you today?)

  7. StanG says:

    Pad Boy,

The Prime Minister has chosen not to offer any defense to the facts and evidence presented, but rather cast out groundless and slanderous personal attacks”

I’ll type it slowly for you – Prime Minister is being accused of groundless and slanderous personal attacks, not Theptai.

Citing Thairath page, in Thai, untranslated, to support somehting he writes for Huffington Post is probably another Amserdam’s technique.

Even in that Thairath article I can’t find any slanderous attacks.

On the Amsterdam’s own blog there’s no mention of slanderous attacks on his white paper either. In fact it mentions that Abhisit clashed with Theptai once over some other issues.

You are such a time waster.

Dude, your last comment is such an epic fail it’s staggering….

Robert Amsterdam clearly cites his source here – http://robertamsterdam.com/thailand/?p=215

Click on Thepthai Senpong on the 2nd line and you’ll get the Thai Rath article I included in my last comment….

I think you need to get at least the very very basics right.

  9. PAD Boy says:

    StanG

You fail once more – Thepthai, Abhisit’s spokesman, clearly makes pejorative comments about Amsterdam in Thai Rath here – http://www.thairath.co.th/content/pol/98831. This has, so far, been the only response from the govt or Dems on the WP. As Thepthai’s comments have not been refuted by Abhisit, then we can only assume the PM is happy with them.

In future I would suggest you do your research a bit better.

In short, regarding your post, and I’m quoting from you directly but have added a couple of extra bits.

“Why would anyone consider [StanG’s] drivel [sic] seriously is beyond me, it’s aimed at members of [the] international audience who know nothing of the conflict and need to be recruited into [the Thai government’s] struggle.”

    Simon – 58

For some reason the pro-democrat party always say to people that don’t agree with them that they are ” disconnected from reality”. I was wondering, why are they so sure that they themselves is not the one disconnected? Moreover, even if majority of Thai people doesn’t share the ideology but that also doesn’t mean that they agree with the opposition.

“There was never a formal complaint to the EC from any PTP official representatives, no matter what they say to the media now, which, indeed, is obfuscation.” Who is the new Stang/Trep?

  12. FredKorat says:

#58 Agreed, but …. A vote for either the Democrats or the PTP is a vote for more of the same corruption, regardless of the BS either side try to fob us off with. One can appreciate local political realities, and still be glad to be disconnected from them. If ‘reality’ is a bitch-slapping soap opera, it is undoubtedly better to throw the damned TV out of the damned window.

thanks to you Jud for all the links posted. despite the personal rants and attacks on others, I believe that the individuals posting here have good intentions. I came across this information from my father who happened to mention an old friend mentioned and posting here. I do not know the solution to the situation but am grateful to have gained the knowledge. Thanks again to Jud as well as Daniel for your professionalism in reporting. I will do my best to pass along the injustices the Karen people (as well as millions of others around the world) are facing to light. Please keep sharing any information!

  14. Simon says:

So where is the foretold backlash against the Democrats?

Some of you need to realise that your personal political ideologies are not shared by any significant part of the population and are in fact rather disconnected from reality.

  15. StanG says:

PTP has finally managed to petition the EC, well after they accused it of inaction.

  16. StanG says:

    Jim Taylor,

There was a complaint filed with the EC by a man who doesn’t live in the constituency and who hasn’t been authorized by PTP in any way.

There was never a formal complaint to the EC from any PTP official representatives, no matter what they say to the media now, which, indeed, is obfuscation.

  18. Suzie Wong says:

I find Hla Oo’s writing reflects deep passion for progress and profound love for Myanmar Burma and her people. At the same time, I also understand Moe Aung’s point of view about Aung San. I think we need to put the event in the context of Southeast Asia at the time.

During that time, nationalist sentiments intensified throughout Southeast Asia and the leaders collaborated with Japan’s Southern Expeditionary Forces to gain independence from the European colonial powers. In Indonesia, Sukarno collaborated with Japan to drive out the Dutch East Indies. In Vietnam, the Axis overthrew the French authorities and installed Bao Dai. Ho Chi Minh led the independence movement from 1941 onward and defeating the French in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu. In Thailand, Plaek Pibulsongkram signed a military alliance with Japan when the Japanese Blitzkrieged their way through Malaya. Pibulsongkram declared war on the allied powers. In Malaya, Japanese invasion during World War II ended British domination in Malaysia. I think it would be fair to say that we need to consider Aung San’s collaborated with Japan in this context.

In addition, the political philosophy of Southeast Asian countries at the time seemed to be leaning toward leftist ideology. Sukarno’s political philosophy was mainly a fuse of elements of Marxism, nationalism and Islam. Plaek Pibulsongkram was nationalist socialist. Ho Chi Minh was Marxist Communist. The Malayan Communist Party took up arms against the British. I think this was where Burma began to make mistake by having internal conflict at the top leadership over political philosophy when the country was still weak and couldn’t afford such a conflict.

Lastly, while others took side during the Cold War era, Burma remained a non-aligned country. The disadvantage was Burma got nothing while Vietnam and the Indochina received aids from USSR, and the U.S. provided aids for Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. So this was another long period of no-growth in Burma.

That’s the past and we can’t change history. I hope we work together, look up, not down. Ahead never back. When we work together, we all win together.

  19. Ralph Kramden says:

    From today’s Bangkok Post:

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Polenghi, the elder sister of Fabio Polenghi, an independent Italian photographer killed during clashes between red shirt protesters and authorities on Ratchadamri Road on May 19, yesterday asked to see detailed forensic examination results of her brother, performed by police.

Ms Polenghi wants to compare the police findings with those of doctors.

Acting Pathumwan police chief Chumporn Kanchnarat said he could not provide her with the results because they had been handed over to the DSI. The department has taken over the investigation of the case.
