From twitter: tulsathit Pheu Thai has conceded defeat, or so it seemed, saying “many disadvantages” including abuse of state power made them lose this election.
Actual count looks closer than the exit poll. Results with 44% counted are here. This has Democrats on 53% and Pheua Thai on 47%. Will Abhisit be happy with that?
Whatever the result would be, I think this election is totally unfair.
Mr. Korkaew, from Puea Thai Party is locked down in his cell. It is similar tactics by whoever supporting this Democrat Party did in the past general election.
At 2007 General Election, the interim-government kept martial law in many provinces. The army was helping the Democrat to win election, but failed to do so.
Even if, the Puea Thai candidate win this election, I still it’s unfair and not in democratic standard.
Like boxing, one side got hands tied and mouth shut, another side can hit wherever he wants.
They have so much power now that they are acting like the mafia themselves. They are no longer running on the road but on footpaths whenever they want. Shouting and honking their horn to people walking on the footpaths to get out of their ways. A 70-year-old guy I know got hit by one them ON the footpath and ran off. He’s now paralyzed.
If the majority of them are red, what can one say about their conscience?
The pre-voting polls suggest a win for Democrats. However these ‘controlled’ polls predicted that the Democrats would win the 2007 polls which they did not.
I believe that PTT will get significanly more votes than expected. That the Democrats will also view this as a direct treat to their (not really) reconcilliation plan. And that the judical activist courts and the EC will jump in to bail out the Democrats like they have in every case since the Junta takeover in 2006–thereby pissing off the electorate that is rewarded only went they vote for the junta-selected Democrat Party.
Questions to Denys Goldthorpe
1) Has Benedict Rogers ever been seen in any way associated with Vicary and Turnell?
2) Is his admitted “Hearsay” as filler is accepted as truth?
Not unlike Vicary and Turnell little truth lots of fillers in due to “no available credible data” claim!
3) Why has Benedict Roger sincerity to educate the west on Than Shwe character consistently include titillating, belittling description that make Than SHwe no more than a stupid buffoon?
4) Is this because doing so will conceal or rather justify west similar stupid approach to Myanmar that cause so much misery to the most vulnerable?
This glorifying or dignifying of westerners lies that hurt Myanmar citizenry need to stop in New Mandala before any serious policies commensurate to SPDC knavery that has been lacking for the past 4 decades can be initiated.
Andrew Marshall has got this about right in his Reuters summary:
“Amsterdam’s analysis is a comprehensive and well-researched document of a quality far superior to the embarrassingly unsophisticated invective that tends to dominate the debate in Thailand from the pro-establishment side. It is recommended reading, and for those who disagree with it, the challenge is to come up with a document of similar quality, rather than falling back once again on angry and empty condemnations.”
They have ALL conspired to shaft the general public. By ‘they’, I am referring to the monarchy, the army, the police, the civil service, the politicians, big business and the mafia. Put them in any order you so wish, as they are frequently indistinquishable anyway. (Another gross oversimplification, of course. Nevertheless, there is a significant amount of truth in it.) All that this forum seems capable of is discussing the relative merits of different factions of this parasitocracy. About the only thing you have got right is that there is an almost complete drought of professionalism, sincerity, and humanity amongst those who suppose themselves to run this country, or suppose themselves capable of running this country. By showing any degree of support for Thaksin or his foul-brood opponents you lead yourselves wide open to the sort of mockery served up here by Ray Martino.
Tarrin, I don’t understand your point at all. Not at all. If they didn’t take action for Thailand, Thailand would not be the greatest country in Southeast Asia, and the World even, today.
Phibun was very good. Do you consider the historic ties between Japanese and Thai? Japan is also a good country. They tried to improve many things back then and now they improve many things through the Asian Developing Bank. Maybe if we didn’t have the shared history, they wouldn’t bother to help us with the Asian Developing Bank with a loan after we have great parties. Japan is like the designated driver. You must not like Japan or designated drivers with that sort of comment.
Do you know what one stick of marijuana can do to you? You can lose your family with one stick. I think I prefer the family stay together and remove the weakest link, the smoker of the stick. Benign Sarit had a good idea and implemented it well. You cannot be Thai if you don’t understand this. Maybe you are an American. Sorry, that’s discriminatory. Maybe you are Californian. It’s okay to be Californian, but realise not everyone wants to lose their family with marijuana like your people do.
We knew each other better after the civil war, you have to admit. We knew who were the good people and who were the useless ones. Some of the useless ones are even alive today. It’s very benign of us that they are still alive. Thanom was a good man. If they didn’t protest there wouldn’t have been a massacre. They started it, and Tanin wanted to just find those responsible. Isn’t this whole post about accountability? Tanin wanted the same as you, but you are just misguided, lost in your Californian dreadlocks.
Like Thanom, Suchinda tried to keep democracy progression orderly and sustained. If the people who wanted democracy in the protests go their way, there would have been more corruption as they would have taken advantage of the country side hill people who can’t even understand the ballot system. They would have bought their votes much sooner. But luckily Suchinda was disciplined and said no. If we had Suchinda still in power, fatty Thaksin would still be eating out of his mothers house like he should be. Moreover, Suchinda got rid of that silly Chatichai who wanted more corrupt crony business with the Indochinese. How can you say Suchinda was not a good man?
Prem directly serves the King. Are you saying the King would not have a good man serve him?
Abhisit and Suthep are good men. Abhisit went to Eton and Oxford giving up his chance to go to TU and Chula. He went there to understand the foreigners way, and he does. So if you want to talk to him about a foreign understanding of Thai you should get an interview, but it might be difficult for a decade or so (hopefully longer) because he will be busy in government. Suthep will be in power with Abhisit too. He even resigned from his MP position because he had some businesses. If only Thaksin had this sort of intelligence and good will.
They are good men, you just want to focus on depression. Maybe you are depressed. I think you need to go to Koh Samui!
Not sure they were pardoned, but I do recall – and for the life of me can’t find it – a statement some years ago about the palace acknowledging that these three were not the culprits and that their families had received some kind support from the palace. Anyone else know about this or has the reference?
Gentle readers, don’t forget that parody can be a powerful form of critique. Martino Ray is a rank amateur. The true master of parodying the yellow cause is StanG. So good, in fact, that some people think he is serious.
We Thais should face the fact that Preah Viheara Temple rightfully belongs to Kampuchea. Its architectural makeup is hardly Thai. Several other scared sites now in Thailand are also Kampuchean in style. It is fortunate that Kampuchea does not claim these.
Bangkok Constituency 6: judgement day
With about 90% of the vote counted it’s 53.5 to the Democrats and 46.5 to Pheua Thai.

I doubt if those participating in May ’92 are now the “phrai”. Maybe more towards the other side.
