I’ve never met any farang here who had anything good to say about the redshirts, Thaksin, the yellowshirts, Sonthi Lim or Thai politics in general. These farang redshirts most be a pretty naive species to be taken in by such blatant mangling of the truth. Or perhaps this is just another form of farang panhandling. Instead of sitting under the Skytrain begging endless return ticket fares, they now work had-in-glove with that other completely dishonest species, the Thai politician. It would be a very short walk for them , from the el tracks to Rajprasong.
That’s it! Eureka! They’re panhandlers! Wonder if I can now panhandle some cash out of Thaksin or The Manager. No. I’ll give it a miss. Too dangerous dealing with bent cops and dubious newspaper proprietors (with each their own set of mafia baggage). Once they have outlived their usefulness, such farang redshirts will probably join the 3,000 others shot in the back. And no one will care a damn who really murdered them.

Thank you for not buying into either set of fairy tales. PT is such a mixture of fantasy world ex-communists and pie-in-the-sky capitalists. In fact, the whole elite system here is the stuff of utter pipedreams.
Oh, and BTW, I am a foreign red shirt supporter who has been to these rallies, and I also sing luktung music, although not at these rallies. And I don’t have the luxury to sweep in for a few weeks to pretend I’m saving humanity with Royal support.
Aren’t we so lucky to have Kelly come and sing for us here in Thailand to “develop public awareness to very critical situations”! Farming bio-dynamically, saving whales and Kari forests, building world peace, standing up for Tibetan refugees, and speaking out against genocide. She sounds like a tourist operator, not a serious social critic.
How much of her commercial success does she donate?
And what do you know? She came down on the side of the PAD and the monarchy! What a liberator! Because, you know, they aren’t corrupt.
Kelly, next time you’re in Thailand go north and live in a village and pull rice for a week in the scorching sun and learn some luktung music. We don’t want to listen to you and your big, arrogant mouth, nor your own corrupt, imperial point of view cast in terms of your own Christian evangelical perspective.
Thailand is not about the King. It’s about the people. Sing a song for them in their language about them, not the King. Then you will be a liberator, not an opportunistic tourist fetishizing another exotic oriental country.
‘In 2008 Kelly wrote and sang songs for the ‘People’s Alliance for Democracy’ (the PAD) in Thailand, the longest running peaceful protest in the world, a stand against corruption and to bring about “true” democracy.’
As if the current situation isn’t enough, we now have this utter drivel from this man.
”We should have a democracy without interference like in the US,” added the dual American and Canadian citizen, who has been living in Bangkok for 15 years and asked to remain anonymous.’
“The current government was not voted in, and I want to have a vote,” he said.
If you are not Thai, or have taken Thai citizenship, you cannot vote in Thailand. Or, have I been missing something for the last 8 years?
She recently received confirmation from His Majesty’s office, that she may release her songs for the King of Thailand and also make her own documentary about His Majesty’s organic farm.
I bet any red sympathetic foreigners won’t get royal approval.
Ah, Khun Banphai, you flatter me. And with all the sincerity that a satirist can muster I say, “Molto grazie”.
However, I assume from reading your post that you are the product of a good education. You see, that is what distinguishes us elites from the commoners. We are cultured. We are privileged. We are ethical. We are trendy. We are productive members of society. There is nothing wrong, I repeat, nothing wrong in embracing an amart identity. Why do people spew forth venom in our direction and champion the “rights” of the poor, disenfranchised and the marginalized? I humbly declare that it is just a waste of time and energy. Social justice is simply a mirage; it does not exist here in the Kingdom of Thailand, and it never will, mark my words.
I must confess that I have not come across too many people in the Land of Smlies (both foreigners and Thais) who would recognize the name of Aristophanes or even understand his contributions to world civilization. I am saddened to find out that despite the large investment of public funds by the Thai State in developing and improving the national education system of the country, I often see children and young adults playing around in rice fields, factory floors, marketplaces, office buildings, etc. Why isn’t the “future” of Thailand in school, memorizing their textbooks, listening to the instructions of their teachers, and learning how to behave? I cannot restrain myself any longer, “These phrai DO NOT deserve a place in the political arena. They bring nothing to the table.”
And yet, what does this country produce? Thaksin Shinawatra. Thai Rak Thai. Red Shirts. Water buffaloes.
Does anyone know what UDD stands for?!!!

Editor note (NSF): This is the 20,000th New Mandala comment since June 2006.
None of these posters knew what is really going on, instead of yapping and yapping. Laos and Cambodia already taken by Communist Vietnam; and Thailand is about to be taken by Communist Vietnam too. If this blog is a pro of Thai monarchy is fine, but to keep lying to the good citizen of Thailand is really bad. You don’t want to post my comment is your problem, but I only state what I knew about. Both Red and Yellow shirts have already been infiltrated by the Vietnamese spies, they learned and spoke Thai, Laos and Cambodian since in Vietnam before they entered these countries. It is no a conspiracy theory it is fact.
There won’t be anymore King/Queen in Thailand, King Bhumibol will be the last.
The Nation quotes Puea Thai MP Wipoj Apornrat as saying PTV is back on the air — Cambodian PM Hun Sen has “permitted PTV to use the satellite uplink service” — though service is intermittent due to signal jamming efforts.
It surprises me that PM does not take pages from Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America to guide his policy. Many people think this work that is sympathetic to Americans but in fact is from the hand of French aristocratic academic.
For example:
“I regard it as an impious and detestable maxim that in matters of government the majority of a people has the right to do everything, and nevertheless I place the origin of all powers in the will of the majority. . . I therefore think it always necessary to place somewhere one social power superior to all others, but I believe that freedom is in danger when that power finds no obstacle that con restrain in course and give it time to moderate itself.”
Mike, interesting point. Actually, neutral people like you deserve full explanation: was it Suthep’s plot or Arisman’s plot. Anyway, the end result is the imposition of the State of Emergency, which is what Suthep/Abhisit wanted in the first place. Then they shut down reds TV so people cannot hear reds’ voices. Mainstream media hardly mentioned the gas canisters’ incident and keep stressing Arisman “broke the law” because he invaded parliament grounds.
Enrico Damanche, you really are such an excellent satirist, a worthy successor to Aristophanes, no less. Please continue to amuse us with your parodies. I, for one, always look forward to a chuckle at your next post. Your patrons amongst the UDD supporters should be well pleased with you, but be ever mindful that the use of ridicule can result in a writer simply looking ridiculous.
