King Bhumibol is a philosopher-king in the Platonic ideal, and a universal monarch in the grand tradition of ancient Thai kings, who aspire for Buddhahood. He strictly practices the Ten Royal Virtues…King Bhumibol reigns over Thailand with a purpose. He wishes to maintain the goodness and unique character of Thailand so that we can live happily, in harmony, and within the resources we have – not too much, not too little. But we have failed our King by pursuing our own narrow interests above those of the country. We no longer recognise the strength and merit of our country. We embrace nihilism and decadence and the craving for material gain and power.
