For New Mandala readers with an interest in the languages of mainland Southeast Asia, the fully functioning version of SOAS’ Wa-Chinese-Burmese-English dictionary is certainly worth some hours of exploration. It contains a great deal that might interest those with specific interests in other, non-Wa, parts of the region. The dictionary and related sites are impressive pieces of work.

Over the next few months my current research, which, I might add, has nothing to do with Thaksin or speculation about voodoo, will start to feed new pathways in New Mandala content. Part of my work has inevitably focussed on language in some of Southeast Asia’s more mountainous places. In this sense, the Wa dictionary project is a nice way to introduce some coming attractions in the New Mandala scheme.
